Description
The Alpina 2000 ti Touring A1 – born as close as possible to the factory When BMW presented the Touring in 1971, it was ahead of its time: a sporty shooting-brake with a large tailgate – as practical as a estate, as elegant and agile as a coupé. Audacious, versatile and yet faithful to the joy of driving, it remained a well-kept secret for a long time. Barely 30, 000 examples were produced until 1974, before BMW halted production. Today, it is regarded as a rarity – an obscure chapter in BMW’s history that only a few enthusiasts have had the chance to discover. One of them was an official Alpina driver, who acquired a 2000 ti Touring directly in Buchloe in 1973. Years later, in 1987, he decided to give his Touring a fresh soul – with the help of those who had built Alpina’s reputation and thanks to genuine original parts. Step by step, a car was born that had never existed officially, but breathed Alpina DNA into every fibre. As part of this transformation, the Touring received a brand-new BMW 2-litre engine, elevated by original Alpina components. Fitted with the legendary A1 carburettor system, it regained that unmistakable character that only Buchloe knew how to instil: instant response, a joy to rev up to the highest revs, and a refinement of operation worthy of precision engineering. Crowned by a sport exhaust system from Abarth, whose deep and resonant note turned every kilometre into an experience, and paired with a 5‑speed manual gearbox, this powertrain combined power, dynamism, pure emotion and a unique sound – a mechanical masterpiece that made the Touring a true driver’s car. But that wasn’t all: the chassis was reworked in Alpina fashion, the brakes strengthened, and even the cabin received particular attention. The sport seats and the rear bench were retrimmed in original Alpina fabrics, complemented by the characteristic extra instruments from VDO and the classic Alpina steering wheel, still regarded today as the embodiment of sporty elegance. On the outside, the car is distinguished by an original Alpina front spoiler, flanked by the iconic Alpina alloy wheels that finish off its sporty silhouette. An extension of the Zender body kit – initially designed for the BMW 02 saloon – was carefully adapted to the Touring’s bodywork, giving it extra presence. And as a charming detail, this Touring even features a rear wiper – equipment never officially offered, but seemingly tailor-made for a vehicle that blends sportiness with daily practicality. Thus was born a 2000 ti Touring A1 that is much more than a transformation: the expression of an Alpina driver’s passion, forged with original parts, expert know-how and genuine commitment. A car that did not officially exist – but which Alpina itself could hardly have designed better. The apex: at Alpina’s 50th anniversary celebration, this Touring was voted “Best of Show” by the jury. A belated recognition that elevated it from an individual transformation to an honorary Alpina – a rolling monument illustrating the close bond between BMW, Alpina and the sporting spirit of its era. History of the Alpina A1 2000 ti Touring offered here Ordered by its first and only owner in January 1973, this car was delivered by Alpina Bovenseipen (sic) on 21 March 1973 and registered on 29 March 1973 through the driver’s company of the time. In its original Colorado colour (code 002), the Touring began its career. On 17 December 1975, it was re-registered to the private address of the owner – and for more than 50 years it has remained in the same hands without interruption. In 1987, the vehicle underwent a complete restoration, during which it was transformed into an Alpina A1 2000 ti. Since then, it has covered only around 40, 000 km, bringing its total mileage to about 140, 000 km today. It was then used exclusively at rallies and meetings of classic vehicles, always carefully maintained and preserved thanks to anti-corrosion treatment and meticulous upkeep. The Touring comes from a major BMW and Alpina collection. A photographic record of the restoration as well as numerous documents and invoices spanning five decades accompany its story. As a highlight, the “Best of Show” trophy from Alpina’s 50th anniversary celebration is also included. Today, the vehicle has German registration papers and presents in an exceptionally fresh condition – a unique piece of BMW and Alpina history, embodying continuity, authenticity and passion.
