Bodywork / Exterior:
The example presented here is a 1961 Triumph TR3 A Overdrive, registered in September 1962.
The period Signal Red paintwork is in excellent presentation condition, showing a uniform tone and sheen.
After a professional polish performed by our workshop, we noted a few micro-cracks in the paint on the boot lid and left rear wing.
We also noted an old repair on the front wing chevron.
The chrome bumpers and their overriders are perfectly aligned and in good condition, at the front and rear.
The rear aluminium Robri-type wheel arch guards are in good condition.
The grille, headlamps and taillights are also in good condition.
This example is equipped with the option “Chrome luggage rack cap” (luggage carrier).
The black vinyl hood is in very good condition with no signs of discolouration, wear or sagging.
Its seals conform to the era’s standards.
PVC window rubbers are in excellent condition with no cracks or splits.
This example is also fitted with a black vinyl tonneau cover and in good condition despite minor signs of wear.
This example is also equipped with a desirable feature on roadsters without side windows: Plexiglas Side Screens.
These are in good condition.
This example has 4 15’’ chromed spoke wheels and 4 chromed knock-offs.
Overall, it is in near-new condition and shod with 4 CONTINENTAL tyres showing 10% wear front and rear.
This exemplar also retains its original spare wheel.
Among the notable exterior equipment and options for this specimen are the tonneau cover, aluminium rear wing guards (Robri type) and the chrome luggage rack cap.
Interior:
The Black vinyl upholstery is in very good condition.
We noted a small tear on the driver's seat.
The Black vinyl door panels are in good condition.
The dashboard and the black vinyl instrument hood are also in very good condition.
The JAEGER dashboard instrumentation and the LUCAS ammeter are fully functional.
The original 3-spoke bakelite steering wheel and the Triumph wooden gear knob are both in excellent condition.
All Black floor carpets are in good condition.
This exemplar is fitted with a battery cut-off and a chrome passenger grab handle.
Among the notable interior equipment and options, we note: the original bakelite 3-spoke steering wheel, the Triumph wooden gear knob and the chrome passenger grab handle.
Chassis:
On the ramp, the chassis and body are sound, with no visible accident damage or structural corrosion.
The fundamentals: sills, floor panels, wheel arches, inner wings, ladder frame chassis and longitudinals are in very good condition.
Usage reserve: in principle we cannot guarantee perfect alignment beyond what is visually and functionally validated on road tests and on the ramp.
During the dynamic test, we did not detect any abnormal rattles in the body or running gear (ball joints, suspension bushes...) despite a stiff steering and a slight play in the front suspension.
Braking is aligned and its effectiveness remains in line with era standards.
Front brake discs show 10% wear.
Front brake pads show 50% wear.
Rear drums are fully functional with no signs of seepage.
A pre-delivery technical inspection by our workshop will confirm everything is functioning correctly.
Engine / Transmission:
The original mechanicals run perfectly.
The engine was restored in 2016 (invoice: €3, 384).
During this work, the following components were replaced: set of 4 cylinder liners, set of 4 pistons, bearing shells, cylinder head resurfacing and pressure testing, new head gasket, engine gasket kit, timing chain replacement.
The 4-cylinder starts perfectly, with no unusual noises and the idle is stable, as confirmed by the 360° video showing the engine running, available at the start of the slideshow.
Compression tests and the road test performed by our workshop confirm a healthy 4-cylinder.
When driving, the engine revs freely without jolts or overheating.
Hot oil pressure is 30 psi at 600 rpm.
Engine note is augmented by two sport air filters and a stainless steel exhaust.
The gearbox shifts smoothly and synchronisers are functioning well.
Reliability is boosted by the addition of a manually-triggered electric cooling fan (KENLOWE).
All four gears engage and disengage without issue.
The clutch grip is good; it has been replaced.
This exemplar is equipped with a rare and sought-after option: Overdrive.
When engaged, it enables lower revolutions in 2nd, 3rd and 4th and can reduce fuel consumption or raise cruising speed.
As with many of these models, engine/ gearbox/ axle sealing remains average.
