Description

We are delighted to offer onto the market this magnificent Rover 12 Tourer. Whilst there were only 200 of these wonderful, rare Tourer’s built, this is the seventh example we have offered onto the market in the last fifteen years. We are incredibly fond of these cars, they are a spacious, comfortable, robust and superb driving open four seater car that are ideal for cruising and are capable of regular use and long distance touring. This example, EUN 400 is a magnificent car that comes to us in beautiful condition throughout and an impressive, comprehensive history detailing thousands of pounds worth of expenditure that has preserved and kept this car at the highest standard.

Excellent records and paperwork tell us the car was garaged from 1978 to 1999 and after twenty one years off the road was sold requiring restoration work. The Rover was the subject of a major restoration costing a reported £25000. In 2005, EUN 400 was purchased by its most recent owner, a Sheffield based Doctor who has cherished the Rover for over twenty years and has spent thousands of pounds, all wonderfully documented within the impressive history file.

Whilst an impressive repair and service history log has been meticulously kept from 2005 to 2025 detailing a high level of expenditure, less than 1000 miles have been covered over this time. EUN 400 has been beautifully kept, cosmetically exceptional and mechanically in first class order with no expense spared. In 2006 Vintage & Classic Restorations Ltd completely dismantled the engine and rebuilt it with new liners, pistons, valves and valve guides, new white metal bearings, crankshaft re-grind, new rocker shaft and bushes, new starter ring gear and flywheel, the oil pump was overhauled and a new clutch fitted. At this point the Rover also had new king pins and bushes, new outer wheel bearings and the front brake compensator was rebuilt.

The Rover was annually serviced and checked over, and continually improving with various upkeep, maintenance and work documented each year. In 2010 work was carried out to the gear linkage, in 2011 the rear chassis and rear axle were cleaned, primed and re-painted and in 2012 the hood frame stripped and re-painted and the dashboard removed and a new one made with completely renewed switchgear and clocks. Between 2013 and 2015, due to some bubbling paint, brand new rear wings were made for the car and extensive preparation and paintwork carried out. Further chassis cosmetic detailing was carried out, a new rear wiring loom installed and a new lid for the rear boot toolbox manufactured and fitted. Extensive notes continue with upkeep and improvements to the braking system, suspension, electrical system, fuel system, general servicing and continuous cosmetic detailing.

The result of this type of careful, no expense spared ownership is a truly top class car. EUN 400 is outstanding, it's a beautifully presented, exceptional driving car that is ready for shows, events, and regular fine weather use. The chassis is exceptional, the bodywork first class, the paint finish gleams, weather equipment is impressive, brightwork is all of a high standard and when looking close within the engine bay and boot compartment, the attention to detail cannot be missed. The upholstery was re-trimmed over twenty years ago and still presents delightfully, and on the road this Rover P2 Tourer is a true delight with its strong rebuilt engine performing superbly, holding excellent oil pressure and pulling through the smooth gearbox effortlessly. This is a true gem, it will not disappoint and is without doubt a car for the discerning buyer.
