A final hurrah for the unlikely sports saloon which reinvigorated the marque, the 1997 model-year Turbo R was built on the longer wheelbase as standard. Perhaps conscious that its Arnage successor would house a smaller capacity BMW engine and require considerably fewer man hours to build, the ‘last-of-the-line’ Turbo R attracted 480 buyers (367 RHD / 113 LHD). Heavily facelifted the previous season, the ’97-MY cars gained larger diameter front disc brakes and Electronic Traction Assistance System to better cope with their prodigious outputs (385bhp/ 569lbft) and performance (0-60mph: 6. 3 seconds / 155mph). Finished in the decidedly elegant combination of Peacock Blue metallic with Parchment leather upholstery, chassis CH60193 was supplied new by HR Owen of South Kensington on May 9th 1997. Initially road registered as ‘P9 ADY’ (the first of many personalised number plates), the Bentley was returned to the same dealership by its first owner for servicing at 1, 544, 2, 679, 3, 422, 3, 436 and 3, 923 miles before they took it back into stock during March 2000. Acquired by its most recent registered keeper twenty years later, the Turbo R is warranted to have covered just 41, 000 miles.
