Description
This 1972 French K5 model has a well-known, unique history: barely run-in, the motorcycle has been stored for more than 40 years, apart from occasional start-ups. In 2016, its new owner acquires the certainty that the bike really has 4, 000 km on the clock—no pitted chrome, a perfectly clean tank interior, the carb cover lacquer only lightly flaking, the drive chain and sprockets in very good condition, brake linings and clutch plates/ discs showing no wear, the seat in excellent condition, and clean air filters.
He then gives the motorcycle a thorough overhaul, polishing the alloy wheels and all the covers/ engine cases, stripping and cleaning the carburettors, re-restoring the tank, and polishing the original paint. In 2020, the current owner continues in the same spirit. In particular, he replaces the silencer cans that have corroded from those past period start-ups (using original Honda parts), but also the spark plugs and suppressors, the battery, points and condenser, and many rubber gaskets/ seals. A Keyster Japan carburettor kit and Dunlop K70 tyres are fitted. The speedometer and tachometer are serviced by a specialist. The ignition, carburation and valve timing/ valvetrain tuning is entrusted to a well-regarded professional.
The motorcycle is run regularly and works impeccably. It has covered 9, 000 km since new, including 5, 000 km since 2020. It is registered as a historic/ collector vehicle.
