Beschreibung

I have a 1986 GTM Coupe that I wish to sell-on to someone who will finish it off and look after it as I haven't the time to do this myself now.

History of the GTM Coupe (Cox GTM)

GTM Cars is a component kit car manufacturer now located in Kingswinford, UK.
The company was founded in 1967 when Bernard Cox and his friend Jack Hosker created the Cox GTM (Grand Touring Mini) a mid engined Ferrari Dino-inspired sports car based on Mini parts.[1] It was an instant hit and they built kits as fast as they could in their garage in Hazel Grove, Stockport. In the autumn of 1968, Bernard Cox decided to stop production after 50 kits.

Production was taken over by Howard Heerey, who had raced a GTM, and his father who renamed the car to simply GTM. The design evolved over time and by 1971 about 170 kits had been made and they were up to GTM 1-3 (model 1, variation 3). But in 1972 the road outside their garage had to be widened and they were forced to close.

In 1972 a fibreglass company in Hartlepool bought the demonstrator car, moulds, jigs and spares, but they never produced any cars. Instead the GTM project was bought by KMB Autosports in 1976. They made spares for existing cars, but no new kits. In 1980 GTM entered its by far most successful era when it was bought by Peter Beck, Paddy Fitch and Dougal Cowper, the latter departing relatively soon after. The company moved to Sutton Bonington in 1982 and over the next 20 years they refined the GTM Coupe, as it became known and developed a succession of new models.

For those who aren't aware of the details of this kit, it is a fibreglass body on a steel chassis weighing approximately 600kgs, with a Mini front subframe at both the front and rear ends. The front subframe at the rear has custom wishbones allowing rear wheel drive while the front is standard, but houses the fuel tank, radiator and battery. The bonnet is a flip front and the engine cover is removable - both allow good clear access for working. There is a huge fanbase for these cars.

I bought the GTM on 10/ 10/ 1998 (wow over 14 years ago!) from David Weaver in Telford and as I planned to hill climb it at Shelsley Walsh, got my RAC racing licence and started to reduce the cars weight (inner door panels, carpets, seats, dashboard, headlight all removed etc) and also started to simplify the wiring to engine only essentials, but never got round to finishing it off. As such it’s not running at present. To put back on the road it just needs the wiring sorting, dashboard & instruments refitting (Triumph 1300 FWD), one headlamp replacing and unless you want to refuel every ½ hour, a larger petrol tank.

First registered on 18-02-1986 it's on a Q plate it comes with a blue V5 which has the makers name of GTM, some have Austin or Morris as the maker, obviously GTM is preferential. Note: There is no current MOT or Road Tax.

GTM Chassis No. GBADY755.

I would also be happy to send more pictures of any particular part of the the car as required.
