Before you read and show interest, EMAIL ONLY (Phone reception where I live is between nominal and non existent so only Emails will be answered, thank you)
This is my 1982 Toyota Carina which I would like to test the water with, if the right offer comes along then the car will be sold. £1250 would be the lowest offer I'd accept for three genuine reasons.
- The car is in incredibly good condition for its age
- I am in no rush to sell the car, in fact I'd much rather keep her considering she's a great friend and a joy to drive.
- She's the last of 3 Toyota Carinas left, a survivor or rust and ruin. She's a fighter!
- details above
She's had just three owners, myself being the third and has done 76, 274 miles from new. For a 31 year old car the body is solid, there is a little rust spot on the sunroof and a little bubble over the right rear arch but the arches themselves are solid, as is the fuel filler and under/ behind the rear seats. The car has an almost complete service history from 1983 right up to 2003, it has the T50 transmission which is a sturdy 5 speed gearbox and a 1. 8 engine that was offered in the Celica of the same era, it's rear wheel drive and has a tow bar. The sunroof which I mentioned earlier is an electric one which still works after 31 years! There are also some tool bags from Toyota which have some neat little Toyota tools with them, the wheels are all 5j steel wheels and the spare is a full size 5j steel wheel. The Drivers seat is fully adjustable, and has lumbar support in three settings, the steering wheel height is also adjustable. The lower part of the rear seats and the passenger seat are currently in my house and not in the car, I removed them to have a good vacuum of the interior and haven't yet had time to put them back in. Lots of paperwork with the car.
MOT until December 21st 2013, and Tax expires on 31/ 5/ 13 which is soon, But I will probably be re-taxing it as she's my daily car.
There are some little niggles but with a car from 1982, I'd expect nothing less.
The worst problem is:
- The temperature gauge isn't functioning but it's probably just a fuse (I haven't had the time to check yet)
The other problem is sourcing parts, this car is incredibly rare, there are only 3 possibly even 2 left in the entire country! And as a result it is an absolute head turner but is difficult to source parts for even though it shared the chassis, engine, transmission with the Celica.
Unless you are a passionate and resourceful Toyota Enthusiast I suggest you buy a less rare car. This would suit someone who already has a small collection of classic Toyotas.
As I said at the start, I'm basically testing the water with this advert but if the right offer came along then the car will be sold. I'm aware of how rare this car is as there are just 3 of the 1. 8Gl manuals left in the entire country, so any silly offers will be turned away. I've had offers for £1200 which is a good sum but the car is worth far more than that, I want her to go to a good home!
Thanks for reading.
Offers are invited as this is a fantastic car which runs better than modern cars! however as it's so rare I'm not 100% sure what the going rate is, so I welcome sensible offers.
I would also consider part exchange for a Volkswagen, but I'm very particular about my cars. And I'll also only sell it to someone who will look after it and not abuse it, a car as lovely as this one needs to be well looked after and respected!
