Marshall, Sons & Co. of Gainsborough, Lincolnshire first began producing tractors in 1930, and the 'Field Marshall' was introduced after the second world war, in 1945. The Series I, as here, was a single-cylinder two stroke diesel engine, of about 6 litres capacity, coupled to a large flywheel. Production of this model ran until 1947, when the Series II went into production.
This particular example is a true 'barn find' and little is known of its history. The tractor appears complete, in the main, with what are believed to be the rear mudguards present but detached.
