Hidden for many years in dry and pest-free storage, this stalled restoration project was last on the road in 1998 in the South of England
I bought the car as a winter 2017-18 project, but this has been derailed as I've now lost the use of the paintshop this coming winter.
Engine & Gearbox:
3 litre (2994 cc, 183ci) Ford Essex V6 with a manual choke 38dgas carb.
4-speed Ford Manual gearbox with Laycock Overdrive in 3rd & 4th
Engine is running from a fuel can, at present. The small amount of petrol left in the tank smells fine, just needs topping up above the feed pipe level I think.
Engine sounds good & healthy with oil pressure over 50 when cold. Would benefit from a service. spark plugs, oil and filter, check the tappets etc.
Gearbox selects all gears as it should, I have not road tested the car as propshaft was removed/ used/ stolen, but a replacement used prop and bolts are included in the sale
Exhaust is leaking somewhere near the manifold/ front pipe joint, otherwise the system is fine. stainless steel back boxes in very clean condition.
Cooling System holds water under pressure and at running temp. Although some of the rubber hoses have exterior cracking with age, the water pump runs fine, bottom cooling tubing is stainless steel, top one is steel. Radiator label shows recon unit in 1984. no leaks, in very good condition.
Chassis
No welding is required to the chassis.
Outriggers and sill rails have been replaced, everywhere else good.
Suspension & brakes
Coilovers all round in good condition, front end polybushed, rear still on rubber.
brakes will need overhauling, rear shoes and fitting kit are in the boot, front calipers (3-pot Jaguar) are not binding and look in good condition, front discs look fine, no deep grooves or damage.
Exterior:
some of the bodywork has been primed and sanded back in places (some masking tape remains on chrome and rubbers) then left for many years. I have washed it with a hose pipe to remove dust and blown out the crevices with an airline. Its not ready for paint as is.
N/ S front wing has some GRP damage (see photos) but I will provide a section of this panel for the repair. small GRP repair (flat panel) is included on a full front panel in green that is included in this sale (photo shortly)
The rest of the GRP body has no damage, no cracking or separation of layers.
All glass is good, door windows open and close easily (no rotten runners) O/ S door quarterlight opens and closes easily, N/ S is stiff but opens.
All window rubbers in good condition. There are no water leaks into this car.
The two door rubbers & rear hatch rubber (attached to the frame) are dead, but three good used rubbers are included.
window and door chrome is generally good, having been under masking tape for many years.
No dropping in the doors, both side door gaps look good, both shut easily and without rubbing the frame.
front quarter bumpers and headlights / chrome surrounds etc are included on a green se5a front end panel included in this sale (photo to be added shortly)
I have a rear bumper, chrome is fine, but its not the best example.

tyres on all nine wheels are not fit for road use, but hold air.
Interior:
Lower half of the door cards and footwell carpets are missing, presumed dead. door cards are a hardboard panel with black vinyl covering. simple to fabricate a new pair.
Original drivers seat has been replaced with a period Cobra bucket seat. (a common addition to GTEs) all seats in very good condition. Better photos of the seats will be added shortly.
Seatbelts are rusted and frayed, but a good set of GTE belts and stalks are included in the sale.
Electrics:
The wiring is in very good condition. No rodent damage or poor repairs.
Chassis earths look good and
headlights, side lights, mainbeam, rear lights and indicators worn fine. As do the horn, front wipers and all of the gauges & warning lamps.
Hazards & rear wiper not working at present.
fan motor runs, heater untested
dash lights, interior light untested
