1988 BMW 320i Automatic 2-door Coupé (RHD)
97k miles / 3 owners / high spec / BMW service history / New MOT no advisories
To BMW enthusiasts, the E30 generation of the BMW 3 Series has for many years been the epitome of the “modern classic” car. While the car’s old-fashioned styling makes it a real head turner on the road today, it is still a safe, comfortable and – perhaps most importantly – very reliable car. Moreover, it is historically significant for enabling BMW to outsell rival Mercedes Benz for the first time, as it was in many ways superior to its 190E model counterpart. While many were built, very few good examples have survived on British roads, and the market for good examples with rare specification such as this is stronger than ever.
This particular E30 is a 1988 model year 320i automatic coupé (or 2-door saloon, as they were marketed in their day) with a rare and desirable “cirrus blue” metallic paint finish. Although the interior is draped in the standard cloth upholstery, this car can be considered a rather high specification model. First and foremost, it sports cross-spoke 14 inch alloys, a twin exhaust and rear disc brakes (with ABS), all of which were factory standard only in the top of the range 325i model. Moreover, it is equipped with many optional comfort and safety features. This includes power steering, front fog lights, air conditioning with recirculation, electric windows, a rear centre arm rest and cruise control; the latter of which is a particularly rare find on an E30.
This car is a UK-spec right hand drive car, first supplied by B. M. N. Garages of Douglas on the Isle of Man in October of 1988. It was imported to the British mainland in 1991 and has since been kept by two elderly gentlemen in Enfield and Camden, North London. Alongside many main dealer inspection sheets, the original service booklet survives to show an impressive total of 27 service stamps, mostly by main dealers, warranting the relatively low mileage of 97 thousand. The car is unmodified and original and thus comes with all the charming amenities you expect to see in a classic car, such as its original floor mats, toolkit, owner’s manual and radio.
The car has seen a lot of recent expenditure to ensure the its safe and enjoyable use in the future. Most importantly, the undercarriage has been sealed to prevent corrosion and the engine has been fitted with a new timing belt. Like all of our stock, the car will be supplied with a fresh main dealer service and inspection, 12 months MOT and a full tank of petrol.
