Reliant Scimitar GT4A 3-ltr V6 with Overdrive on 3 & 4
An important and interesting Scimitar Coupe being the AUTOCAR Press Car driven by Edward Eves in late '67 and early 68 before being involved in an accident on the MI early in 1968 (pics available) then being rebuilt by Copes of Wolverhampton (Reliant Dealer at the time).
Just 2 owners since plus myself. It is a very genuine and original car, not restored, a bit scruffy but every thing is there and it all works, and it looks the part.
I bought the Coupe almost four years ago to be used for Historic Road Rallies and it has been prepared for that kind of light competition use. It is only for sale, sadly, because my navigator, my son, has got married, changed jobs and moved from the district so his priorities have changed somewhat, hence the Scimitar is rarely used as we have other cars.
The car has only competed in a few minor events, mainly as shake-down runs but it has performed very well as expected along with its continued improvements.
BEFORE BUYING THE CAR.
Its engine was rebuilt by Ian Daniels, blue-printed and balanced with flat-top, light weight-pistons, gas flowed heads, electronic ignition and covering just a few thousand miles since, it sounds fantastic thru'its S/ S pipes.
SINCE BUYING THE CAR.
All oils and filters changed.
New gear change bushes kit.
New windscreen wiper motor.
New Ballast Resistor and Voltage Stabilizer.
New Indicator/ Lights/ Horn switch.
New Clutch (for peace of mind).
New Radiator Core " " " ".
New Head Gaskets ( " " " ".
4 recent Maxxis tyres and refurbished rear wheels.
Another Recent Oil and Filter Change.
Navigational equipment consists of Brantz International 2 Pro, Brantz Rally Timer, classic analogue stop-watch, period Butler map light, 2 fire extinguishers. All Nav' equipment fitted and switched thru' a replacement glove box cover which can be changed back to the original in a few moments. A period, reversing spot light is available, it is not fitted but the wiring is in place. The original radio is with the car although removed and not working.
Mechanically this is now a very strong car, it sounds terrific and does not hang about but it is not immaculate. The original color was Silver but was repainted White about 1972 and has remained in that paint ever since. The body is very good but the paint is very shabby as it is very thick in places so it tends to crack and peel off and is very thin in other parts. I did consider a repaint but because it is primarily a Rally Car everyone said "It looks the part the way it is, don't paint it". Nothing is missing, it all works, even all four quarter lights.
The car has a S/ S fuel tank which has a new filler seal, not sure how effective that is. I also have the original Hand book and Workshop Manual and a few spares such as door handles, window winder and plastic washers, new hub caps and the chrome "Scimitar" letters for the boot top.
This a powerful and entertaining car to drive in a big Healey type of way and in capable hands will not disgrace itself.
Lots of history and bills plus my own research history. A car to use and enjoy as is or improve over time.
THIS CAR IS NOW SOLD
