Descripción
Built by myself, Individual vehicle approval (IVA) passed in 2012. Q plate reg. Car based in east Belafast- very close to Belfast city airport. Close to belfast port and larne ferry ports. Transfer from NI to mainland UK registration is a straightforward process.
Mileage 4200- never driven on salted roads. Kept in a dry garage. There is NO corrosion on the chassis- waxoyled and powdercoated.
The car is essentially a "sevens" type car, but with enclosed bodywork. Designed by Jeremy Phillips of Sylva autokits. It has the same chassis as the striker(open front wheels). The bodywork significantly reduces drag and front the end lift found in sevens at speed. Search for Sylva autokits on wikipedia for more information. The rights to this car are now owned by raw engineering- search for this name + phoenix to get their website and more detail.
The look is of a classic 60s racer, in many ways it is also similar. The chassis is a tubular space frame, with aluminium riveted panels. Steering is Mk 2 escort quick rack. Suspension is bespoke double wishbone all round with Gaz coil overs. Rebound is adjustable. Ride height is adjustable. Hubs and brakes are ford based. Rear diff is the tall (and rare) 3. 14 sierra diff, with quaife ATB to help put the power down and keep revs acceptable at cruising speeds. Half shafts are custom made to the right lengths(no cut and shut) with lobro based CV joints. All the engineering is on show and is easy to work on.
Powered by fuel injected 2006 yamaha R1 engine- 170hp- weight is just under 500kg, means 0-60 in 4s approx. O-100 is probably under 10s.... It will embarrass expensive moderns.
Electric reverse. Quaife reverse also available at extra cost if desired.
This is very much a second car, garage absolutely essential. Road tax is £85 for six months(is not a winter car), insurance for low risk driver over 30- should be around £300 for the year. Mot is due in June and will be sold will a full year(test booked).
Overall I feel this car is very much the look and feel of a classic racer, but at a fraction of the cost. The running costs are very reasonable and the consumable spares are cheap and easy to obtain. The tires are yokohamas and are not really worn due to the low weight. Driven briskly cross country it will do 30mpg.
I want something more sedate and would consider part exchange for any road worthy mgbgt
