The Appeal
Every now and then, something truly special and unique comes along – the kind of vehicle that you have one chance to buy and kick yourself for the rest of time if you miss it. This is one of those vehicles. Finished to a simply incredible standard by Jack’s Shack (who specialise in hot rods, custom trucks and camper conversions), this is the kind of build that is so bespoke and custom that everywhere you look there is something else to admire.
If you want something truly bespoke for transporting and displaying your classic car, or want a genuinely show-stopping truck to advertise your business, there’s not much that would beat this truck. When we went out for a drive in it, everyone we passed stopped and stared. There were smiles, cheers and thumbs-up galore, it really is the kind of vehicle that everyone seems to admire – we even got a chorus of thumbs up from a group of cyclists. Which we really didn’t expect.
While the styling of the vehicle is classic hot rod fashion, the specification and finish is entirely modern. This is reflected in the vehicle’s road manners and performance, which feels modern and reassuring. It really is a one-off. If you would love something like this, this is the only opportunity you’re going to get.
The History and Paperwork

Lots of vehicles have special interiors, many have comfortable cabins, some have intriguing details. Rarely do you find a vehicle that has all of these things – which is what makes this truck’s cabin so special. With superb detailing, impeccable finishes and very well chosen design choices, it’s no wonder this has won awards and draws admiring glances everywhere it goes.
The cabin is spacious and comfortable for two adults. The bench seat will take three occupants, but you may be a little snug. With that gorgeous curving windscreen, it’s a light and airy cabin, which allows you to really take in the gorgeous instruments and switchgear. It genuinely feels like a brand new vehicle from the 50s. It’s incredibly well realised.

The first thing that strikes you when you see this truck is the burnt orange paintwork. Not only is the finish absolutely immaculate, but the colour itself is wonderful. Flashing with bright orange and yellow tones in the sunlight and shining a deep ginger in the shadows, it’s a very well chosen colour. With the contrasting roof and wheels, it sets it off to perfection. And the Idigbo hardwood transporter deck, with its warm, rich tones, works very well with the paintwork. All of the external details and brightwork are superbly finished and presented in as-new condition. Underneath the structure, suspension elements and chassis are all in in excellent condition too.
With the swooping rear arches, reminiscent of a C1 Corvette and entirely hand-shaped, and the beautifully curvaceous front wings and bonnet, this is a charming, characterful and very pretty vehicle – which is something you can rarely say about a truck. The sheer amount of work that has gone into restoring the structure and bodywork of this vehicle is wonderful to see, and truly impressive.
The Mechanics
• 5.9L Cummins diesel with Scania turbo and intercooler

Under the hood, everything you see looks bespoke, custom and beautifully finished. And it’s not just a case of all show and no go – this thing really does drive very well. The Cummins diesel has covered just 40,000 miles and pulls strongly, with a deep roar from the high twin-stack exhausts. The air clutch allows for easy and light gear-changes, and the brakes really do haul the truck to a stop very efficiently.
While the truck looks every inch the authentic 50s hot rod, it really does drive like a modern truck. The modern drivetrain has been installed with care, attention to detail and real expertise. The owner tells us that when they took it down to Goodwood, it cruised along at modern motorway speeds with no effort at all.
Summary
It’s not often a 50s hot rod truck comes up for sale. For that truck to be a transporter, an award-winner and to be custom built to the very highest standards by one of the country’s premier American hot-rod builders is incredibly rare. We’d go as far as to say once-in-a-lifetime stuff.
And what impresses us the most is not just that the finish of every aspect of this vehicle is so crisp and well-considered, but that the aesthetic choices are so spot on too. From the colour scheme to the cabin details, we adore everything about this truck. It’s no show-pony either, the truck is rated at 7272Kg and the owner tells us that it will easily carry a 3.5t vehicle on the rear deck. That makes it not only a gorgeous and unusual classic, but a truly practical vehicle for anyone that regularly transports classics to shows, or simply wants a brilliant advertising piece for their company.
