The Background

An icon of the post-war automotive industry the Jaguar Mk.2 was a luxury sports saloon built from 1959-67 in Jaguars Coventry plant. The Mark 2 was a very fast and capable car, it launched with the slogan of ‘Grace, Space, Pace’ and they weren’t wrong.

The Mark 2 was fitted with such luxuries as disc brakes all around, a limited-slip differential and power steering. With all of this sophisticated equipment, they were able to garner the admiration of several criminal gangs of the era as getaway vehicles, and on the flip side, they were also used by the British Police to patrol the newly built motorway system.

The History

This Mk.2, like many at the time, was earmarked for export, it left Coventry and went on a long journey halfway around the world to Australia. It has since lived an extremely comfortable life in the sunny state of Victoria in the ownership of a Jaguar enthusiast. It only came back into the UK at the start of the year where all the taxes and duties were paid with a new V5 being issued recently.

This is a survivor car, with the majority if not all of the exterior and interior being factory original. Thanks to spending all of its life out in sunny Australia the chassis is in good condition with only a few spots of rust. The interior does now show some signs of wear, but this should not detract from the charm and character of this classic cat.

A globetrotting history like no other Mk.2 this is the first time that this car is available for sale in the UK since it left Coventry in 1961 an exciting prospect for the new owner.

The Paperwork

There are only a few bits of paperwork that come with this Jag these include the current V5, showing 0 owners, a letter from HMRC saying that mentioned that the importation fees have been paid, an invoice for the new stainless-steel exhaust that was fitted (the original was damaged by the shipping company) and a very important document from the Jaguar heritage trust.

This document from the Jaguar heritage trust shows important details about the specification of the car and verifies that this is a number matching example. More importantly, there are no receipts to show any signs of restoration works, cementing the fact that this is an untouched, unrestored car.

The Interior

At first glance, you may look into the interior of the Mk.2 and dismiss it, but everything inside this car is factory original and is now 60 years old.

So, for it to only have minor cracking the leather and a few marks elsewhere this is a truly exceptional interior condition for a car of this age. Another factor to consider is the fact that it has lived its life in Australia, this is great for rust prevention but for leather, it is not the best environment and will lead to the cracking you see today.

The selling point of this Mk.2 is the originality and from the interior, you can see that not a lot of work will be required to bring it up to show winning quality, all of the switchgear is still present, the wood is in great condition, the headliner will need no work

A few little areas of note on this car are that some of the door bottoms will need a bit of attention as we go into winter, the nearside rear door would be considered to be the worst but even then no major work will be required to rectify the small rust patch. The new owner may also want to get new carpets for the car and they may need to fix an issue with a seal on one of the rear windows.

All in all the interior of this Jaguar Mk.2 is in really good condition with only a few points to watch out for in the future.

The Exterior

The exterior, like the rest of the car, is present in unrestored condition. With the condition currently, it will only need a little bit of work to bring it up to a great standard. All of the exterior panels are still finished in the same lovely pearly grey that it left the factory with and therefore over the past 60 years it has picked up a few minor marks, but no major work will be needed.

One of the only important things that the new owner may want to address quickly are the small and isolated patches of rust, these are found under the bonnet and at the bottom of the doors.

The wire wheels may require a little bit of polish to bring them up to standard but like the rest of the exterior, they will just need a little bit of elbow grease as there are no major signs of corrosion on the faces.

The Mark 2 has always been recognised for its sweeping lines and could be classed as one of the last true Jags. This example has the benefit of being untouched, providing a brilliant for the new owner to do what they want with it

The Mechanics

The car has only just landed in the UK and with the long journey over from Australia you would expect it to become stubborn and not want to work, like so many older cars do, but as soon as the current owner picked it up it worked perfectly.

The 3.8l pulls like a train providing ample performance for the 21st roads. This version is fitted with an automatic gearbox, the box itself is excellent, changing gear as it should with a positive kick down when you need the extra performance.

A few parts that have been replaced on the mechanical side include a new stainless-steel exhaust (the original was sadly damaged in transit) and a new uprated brake servo has been fitted to make sure that this car stops as well as it goes.

It is believed that the car has had little use since around 2012 so it may benefit from a new service and a tune-up. But apart from that this big cat is ready to transport the new owner to places with speed and style.

The Appeal

Original, untouched Jaguar mk.2’s are hard to find on the UK market so for one like to come up like this is a rare occurrence. The fact that this Jaguar is a truly honest classic with nothing to hide is an excellent chance for the new owner to make it theirs.

Thanks to its life in Australia the major of rust has been avoided and therefore the lifespan of this Mk.2 has been extended for years to come.
With only a little work needed to bring this car up a notch in terms of quality, it would be a great investment for the future.

The prices of Mk.2 Jaguars have experienced a period of appreciation over the past few years as people start to work out just how good these cars are on modern roads.

Ammontare dell'offerta Incremento
Da £0 a £9,999 £100.00
Da £10,000 a £49,999 £250.00
Da £50,000 a £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Superamento immediato dell'offerta
