The Background

The Land Rover was originally a British equivalent of the Second World War derived (Willys) Jeep. It soon gained a worldwide reputation for ruggedness and versatility. Using a steel ladder chassis and an aluminium alloy bodywork, the Land Rover originally used detuned versions of Rover engines.

The History

The current owner purchased the vehicle in 2018 from the person who had purchased it from The Land Rover Centre, Huddersfield, immediately after it's rebuild and respray in 2009. Full service history since 2009 and MOT certificates are available.

In 2009 the vehicle had a comprehensive overhaul including rebuilt engine, gearbox/transfer box and inside/out respray.

The current owner has had the door upper halves replaced and the roof resprayed plus a new tilt.

Only fault is the heater matrix which is disconnected and will need attention.

The current owner had decided to let her go as it is no longer needed and he doesn’t have the space to keep it.

The Paperwork

The paperwork history only goes back to the purchase from Land Rover Centre Huddersfield in 2009 but this does include the purchase receipt from Land Rover Centre Huddersfield and all MOTs since then.

According to Land Rover Centre Huddersfield, they purchased it already restored with Galvanised chassis, rebuilt engine, rebuilt gearbox, rebuilt axles, rebuilt brakes and steering, new wiring loom, new tyres and a full respray inside and out. Photos of the vehicle “as sold” in 2009 are available.

The vehicle is MOT’d until Oct 22.

The Interior

The interior of the cab is in excellent order with no damage to the upholstery, which remains as good as when it was replaced in 2009. The paintwork on the bulkhead, doors and instrument panels is in good order and the patina on the spoke steering wheel typical of early Series IIs, is charming.

The floor mats in the main cab and the rear are in great condition and are not hiding any areas of corrosion. At some time the vehicle was fitted with three point seat belts. Behind the passenger seats is the original starting handle in its stowage fittings. The secure stowage area under the passenger seat is in great condition.
The interior heater matrix was disconnected by the previous owner and needs to be repaired.
The rear load carrying area has signs of wear and tear, but this is moderate for a utility vehicle of this age.

The Exterior

Finished in classic Land Rover green with cream roof (restored 2020) and tan tilt (new 2018) which is much admired.
Generally very well presented with a lovely shine across the green bodywork and the newly re-painted cream roof. There are some minor scratches which the current owner decided to leave untouched to reflect the age and use of the Series II, its an honest vehicle with expected patina.

Both doors have had new upper halves fitted in 2020. The lower doors would benefit from slight restoration since there is evidence of some bubbling of the paintwork as shown in the photos.

The tailgate has a dent where it was allowed to drop onto the tow ball at some time.
The ½ tilt (with windows) is in excellent condition as it was replaced in 2018 and the vehicle has been garaged since then.
The original owner in 1965 chose not to pay extra for locking door handles – it can be supplied with a Disklok! The wheels and tyres are all in good condition.

The Mechanics

This 56 year-old Land Rover starts very well and the 2.25 litre petrol engine runs very smoothly; unsurprising given the rebuild prior to the sale in 2009. The vehicle benefits from a galvanised chassis sitting on restored suspension front and rear. The gear box and transfer box operate without any whines.

The engine torque and relatively low ratio of 2nd gear mean that it is rarely necessary to pull away in 1st. Third and fourth gears are synchro meshed.

The Appeal

The Land Rover IIa is a well sought after vehicle in today's market and this example is an honest vehicle with lovely patina and character.

Whether you're going to use it as a work horse or enjoy it as a Sunday treat only this vehicle was built to last and will serve you well in both situations.

The restoration the vehicle received in 2009 is tired in places now but on this kind of vehicle it only adds more character and it really rather suits it, they were meant to be used.

If you're looking for a vehicle of this type they don’t really get much more British than this especially in this classic colour scheme. A true piece of British history.

Ammontare dell'offerta Incremento
Da £0 a £9,999 £100.00
Da £10,000 a £49,999 £250.00
Da £50,000 a £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Superamento immediato dell'offerta
