1965 Triumph TR6SS

Highlights

  • Strong factory specification

  • Electronic ignition conversion
  • Enthusiast owned

The Appeal

Original, unrestored and on-the-button, this TR6SS boasts a number of desirable factory extras, such as a 4 -gallon tank, twin-leading shoe brake, and quick-detachable rear wheel, along with a centre steering damper.
Having been in the care of the current owner - an engineer, who has fettled and cherished this US-spec, UK-market TR6SS for a number of years and kept it in rude health throughout his ownership - since 2013, it is now time for this fantastic ‘cafe racer’ style bike to head off to pastures new, and is ready to simply jump on and enjoy.

History/Paperwork

 • Owners manual
 • V5, showing 8 keepers total
 • Dry-stored throughout current ownership
 • Long-term enthusiast owner
Keen-eyed enthusiasts among you will note that despite being a totally original bike - save for the fitment of electronic ignition at some point in its history, a slight modification that makes it eminently more useable on a regular basis - this TR6SS boasts the US-specification 4-gallon fuel tank.
The reasoning for this, we’re told, is that the bike was originally produced to export market specification, though was deemed surplus to requirements, and was instead sold in the UK, making this a rare US-spec, UK-delivered example.
Alongside the larger tank, the quick-release rear wheel (enabling wheel removal without the need to mess around with the chain) twin-leading-shoe front brake and adjustable steering damper make this a fantastic example of the breed, and a sure-fire conversation starter for any fellow Triumph or British sports bike enthusiasts.
Kept garaged, cherished and fettled whilst in its current ownership, the current owner has covered only just over 500 miles since purchasing the bike in 2013, and the decision has now been made to move it on, with the aim of it going to another enthusiast that will not only continue to keep it in excellent condition, but will hopefully add significantly more miles to the odometer.

One quick note; Whilst we’re on the subject of the odometer, the mileage reading is not correct. At some point in its lifetime, the tachometer/odometer were swapped out due to a fault, and the actual ‘true’ mileage of the bike is unknown.

The Interior

 • Seat is in good condition overall
 • Handlebars can be removed and ‘reversed’ for alternate grip
 • All systems working correctly
Whilst there is no ‘interior’ as such - this is a motorbike, after all - both gauges are working as they should be, whilst the various levers, shifters and kick-start are all fully functional with no issues reported by the vendor.
The seat is generally in good condition, though there are a few scuffs to the outer edges as you’d expect for a bike of this age, and there is a small 2cm puncture on the nearside rear edge of the cushion.

The Exterior

 • Lovely age-related patina on fuel tank
 • Wonderful character - ageing like a fine wine!
 • Chrome in excellent condition
On the outside, this 60’s Triumph displays a fantastic age-related patina and character, with the two-tone paintwork on the tank in particular showing its years of use and enjoyment.
Looking closer, the white lower half of the tank exhibits crazing in the paintwork, and the vendor is uncertain as to whether this was factory-applied or re-sprayed later down the line.
Elsewhere, the chrome arches, levers and exhausts are in excellent condition and polish up very well indeed, whilst both wheels wear matching Avon rubber, though the spokes would benefit from refurbishment if the next owner wished to bring the bike up to concours standard.
The single headlight is free from any damage, as is the rear light, though the numberplate on the rear is showing its age.

The Mechanicals

 • Excellent mechanical health
 • Oil return system in full working order
 • No smoke noted during inspection
During our photo shoot, the 650cc engine fired into life with ease - no doubt aided by the retro-fitted electronic ignition - and the bike was happy to idle once the correct air/fuel mixture had been achieved on the carburettor.
During both startup and whilst idling, we noted no smoke from the exhausts, and when the bike was ridden by the vendor for a short distance to turn it around, the exhausts again blew clean even when the throttle was opened.
Opening up the oil tank cap under the seat, the oil feed return system was seen to be in full working order, and a video of this can be supplied to any interested parties, along with a video of the bike running.
Serviced by the current owner throughout their time with the bike, this TR6SS is in rude health, and is ready to simply jump on and ride.

Summary

With its well-worn, unrestored bodywork, matching numbers and strong factory specification, this is an excellent example of the desirable TR6 SS, boasting a full US-market specification but having spent its entire life in the UK from new.
Garaged throughout its current ownership and having seen only careful, considered use since 2013 by its long-term enthusiast owner, this is an opportunity too good to pass up by any biker looking for a fun, useable and enjoyable bike for the summer months.

Ammontare dell'offerta Incremento
Da £0 a £9,999 £100.00
Da £10,000 a £49,999 £250.00
Da £50,000 a £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Superamento immediato dell'offerta
