The Appeal

Opulence is something few get to experience to this degree. The Silver Shadow was designed as a replacement for the somewhat aged design of the Silver Cloud in the mid-60’s, and was the first from the automakers to feature a completely monocoque design incorporating fully independent, self-levelling hydraulic suspension. Quite the marvel of engineering from the luxurious firm.
As you’d expect, these lavish saloons are becoming rather desirable as few are kept in such fantastic condition - although moderately overshadowed by the later series two, the original Silver Shadow is quickly becoming quite the collectors piece as it was the car to put Rolls Royce back on the top of the ladder for transporting the wealthy in hushed splendor. Living up to Rolls-Royce’s title, this was once again, the “Best car in the world”.
This particular example, underwent a complete and comprehensive restoration process under the current owners possession in 2018 which included a complete vehicle respray in a stunning and period correct two-tone Georgian Silver over Black. Due to the locations of ownership throughout the Silver Shadows lifespan, it has been kept in a very dry climate and presents itself in excellent condition.

Incomparable, comes to mind. The interior of these Silver Shadows showcase such luxury and quality that even by today's standards they truly are something to behold with many features that high-end flagship vehicles live without, and will continue to do so.
Beautifully presented throughout, this example features outstanding refinished woodworking, which is an absolute pleasure to be in the presence of. The front leather seats are in great condition with only a very gentle patina in the form of light creasing as to be expected of leather. There is a slight tear about 2 cm long on the passenger seat, however, it has been repaired but can be seen when looking closely.
The front door cards are original with, of course, the refinished woodwork, and present themselves wonderfully - no cracking or rips in the leather with all of the stitching in admirable condition. They feature small padded leather armrests built in, as well as brightwork grab handles and pull handles for the door mechanism, and the driver side features electric window switches for all 4 windows.
Sitting in the driver's position you’re greeted with the wonderfully simple steering wheel which is of great condition, showing no signs of any damage, and directly behind sits the gear selector with the transmission indicator.

We see more gorgeous woodwork with the dials embedded - all of which are in functional condition as well as any switches or controls - which continue across the dashboard reaching the passenger side and laid out in a satisfyingly symmetrical design. The vendor has noted that the radio is temperamental however, the electric aerial is working.

Moving into the rear of the vehicle, the leatherwork is of similar quality, showing just very minor sign of creasing as to be fully expected, with a central arm rest and individual foot rests for the comfort of the passengers - something that’s rarely ever seen outside of Rolls Royce.

The wooden folding tables are also present with fantastic woodwork condition and move easily with little required force. Original mirrors are still present in the C pillars, as are the reading lights located just above in functional condition. The original headliner appears in great shape.

In the boot area, we also see that the original Rolls Royce toolkit is present here located above the battery - this is a very rare and desirable addittion that not many examples still carry today!

The Exterior

  • Bare metal respray in Georgian Silver over Black in 2018
  • Fantastic brightwork - rechromed bumpers, overrides and other parts
  • Replaced rear screen as the original was delaminating
  • Wheels all in fantastically presented condition
  • Straight and true bodywork with factory-fitting panel gaps
  • Originally painted in Shell Grey - although registered as Silver Blue Metallic, the RR Build Documentation proves otherwise
  • Always lived in dry climate
  • Chassis in outstanding condition
Undeniably pretty, is one way to describe it. Finished in a period-correct and very luxurious two-tone paint job, it’s hard not to stop and stare while scrambling to pick your jaw up from the ground below. A truly loved and cared for Rolls Royce like this deserves the appreciation of many.
Starting at the front of the opulent limousine, the brightwork is in fantastic condition thanks to being rechromed as part of the recent restoration process carried out by the owner. The grill glistens wondrously with the all-famous Spirit of Ecstasy proudly sitting atop. Paintwork is in fantastic condition, as o the headlights and indicators, showing no signs of cracks, damage or any colour fading.
Around to the side of the vehicle we’re introduced to that aforementioned stunning two-tone paintwork which suits this car down to a tee, amplifying the exuberant opulence. The paint here is in great shape, and all of the body panels are straight and true with factory-fitting panel gaps throughout. The wheels are very much reflective of the two-tone paint work thanks to the chrome outer lip and inner cap, with the black strip breaking them up nicely - all of which are in fantastic order with no signs of any unwelcome scrapes.
To the rear of the vehicle, it’s very much a less-is-more approach by Rolls Royce. Beautiful simplistic brightwork bumper, small tail lights in flawless state, and a proud RR badge sitting just above the boot handle. Back here we’re also in view of the replaced rear screen, which was put in place due to the original one beginning to show signs of delamination. All is good here, great in fact, with nothing poor to report.
Overall, this Silver Shadow is of outstanding presentation and is a prime example of what a car of this prestige should look like. A true collectors piece with great amounts of originality.

The Mechanics

  • 6.25L V8 (L410B) Engine producing 172bhp
  • GM 4-speed Hydramatic transmission
  • Rear wheel-drive configuration
  • Independent Citroen-licensed self-levelling hydraulic suspension
  • Monocoque design
  • Original registration indicated 6750cc which is incorrect
  • Wonderfully maintained and serviced
  • Tyres and battery replaced at time of restoration
  • Great mechanical order
  • LED replacement lights
Fitted with the early 6.25L V8 engine propelling the vehicle through a GM derived 4-speed transmission, and producing a stout 172bhp, that would later be made into a 6.75L by Rolls Royce and continued to be used until the very late 90’s. These engines were masterfully built and proved themselves over the decades of use, running smoothly and producing efficient power even after tremendous stress tests done by RR.
This example is reported to be mechanically well sorted, featuring no mechanical issues and running smoothly with no unwelcomed knocks or bangs while driving as you’d expect. The current owner of the vehicle has used the car sparing throughout his ownership, including the cars in special local events where it performs flawlessly. The brakes are reported to be good and responsive as is the 4-speed gearbox.
A Rolls Royce ready for the road, this example has had no expense spared over the years and great care has been taken to ensure its life continues for as long as possible - the workmanship gone into the restoration of the vehicle can attest to this. This is the perfect example for any avid collector or Rolls Royce enthusiast.

Summary

Quickly becoming a very sought after and desirable Rolls Royce, the original Silver Shadow is somewhat overlooked by the later series two variant - however due to this, there are very few originals in such cared for and well sorted condition.
A fantastic opportunity to procure a tremendously cared for and collector owned example, this Silver Shadow is sure to be a treasured purchase for any potential new custodian.

Ammontare dell'offerta Incremento
Da £0 a £9,999 £100.00
Da £10,000 a £49,999 £250.00
Da £50,000 a £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Superamento immediato dell'offerta
