THE APPEAL

Sitting between the MGB GT and the MGB GT V8, we have the impressive MGC GT. With its 3.0 (2912cc) straight six engine, the 150bhp MG is the perfect choice for those wanting something with a touch more power but not the expense of running a V8.

The MGC GT is in great order and running as it should. With the recent addition of an electronic ignition system and fuel pump, the MG is ready to jump in and be enjoyed.

THE HISTORY AND PAPERWORK

  • V5 is present
  • Registered 6th June 1968
  • Original Owner’s manual
  • Workshop manual
The seller purchased the MG just eight months ago on a bit of a whim. Having owned a B GT in his 20s, when he saw the C GT for sale, it was the one car he’d always fancied but couldn’t afford at the time. So, with nostalgia taking over, the MG was purchased without a second thought. Unfortunately, however, getting in and out of an MG later in life is not quite the same as it is in your 20s, and it has proven more difficult than the seller would have hoped, which is the reason for the sale.

The car has been restored in the past. From looking at the paperwork and photographs, it seems to have been carried out in the late 1980s, when it received new wings and sills along with a full respray.

The seller put the car through an MOT test on the 14th February 2022, and it passed with no advisories.

THE INTERIOR

  • Well presented interior
  • Original Smiths instruments
  • Upgraded smaller steering wheel (original included)
The inside of the MGC presents well, and the interior may have been retrimmed at some point. The seats show some patina in the way of creasing, but nothing too heavy. The door cards are in the same condition, with no excessive scuffs to point out.
Sitting in the driver's seat, the steering wheel has been replaced with a smaller wood rim wheel; the original wheel is included with the car. Moving onto the dashboard, which is free from any damage, the instruments are working as they should, and the odometer shows a reading of 91,893 miles.
The carpets have little signs of wear but are generally in good order and with parts readily available, replacing them isn’t a tremendous job to carry out. The headlining is in reasonably good condition, with just some slight sagging around the edges of the Webasto sunroof. Inside the boot is nice and clean with the spare wheel and jack present.

THE EXTERIOR

  • Restored several years ago
  • Webasto roof
  • Chrome wire wheels
  • Good tyres
Finished in what is believed to be British Racing Green (but this is not confirmed), the car presents well. There are a few age related marks here and there as to be expected as it was restored several years ago.
Starting at the front, the brightwork does have some patina to the finish, but it does look to be free from any excessive corrosion. The lights are in good condition with no splits or cracks to the lenses, and the reflectors look to be in good order. The bulging bonnet fitted to the MGC aligns nicely with an even gap down either side.
Around to the sides of the MG, the trim running down the centre of the body is in good condition and is aligned all the way down the flanks. The doors have an equal gap around them and open and close as they should. Like the front, the chrome trim does have some light signs of patina, but this is in keeping with the overall condition of the car. The door windows do have some light scratches, mainly on the driver's side. The quarter windows open as you would expect to add some extra ventilation. Speaking of additional ventilation, the MGC has a Webasto roof fitted that slides open easily and has a perspex wind deflector added to keep wind noise down.
Looking from the rear, the boot lid lines up nicely, again with an even gap. The window is in good condition along with the seal, and the chrome bumper and badges have a good finish to them with just a small amount of patina to the bumper. The light lenses have one small split to the driver’s side in the indicator section, but this isn’t really noticeable unless you were looking for it.
The chrome wire wheels are in excellent condition showing minimal tarnishing to the spokes. The knock-offs are also in good condition with just a few scuffs, and the tyres all have a good amount of tread remaining.

THE MECHANICS

  • 3.0 litre straight six
  • Electronic ignition upgrade
  • Rare automatic gearbox
It's undoubtedly the rare engine that makes this MG a little different from the normal MGB you usually see up for grabs. There has been an upgrade by the seller to electronic ignition, an electric fuel pump and a new choke cable has been fitted, ensuring that the 3.0 litre engine fires up as it should with a little choke. Once warmed for a few minutes, the choke can be taken off, and the straight-six comes to a smooth idle, and then is the time to give the throttle a blip where you can appreciate the sound of the fantastic straight-six.
The MGC came as an automatic version, which was a pretty rare option at the time, making it more sought after today. The car is reported to pull strongly through the gears, and the change is smooth. The vehicle comes to a stop as it should with no juddering through the pedal and in a straight line. Out on the road, the ride is reported to be firm but not too harsh, enabling you to feel the road as you tear down the country roads enjoying the 3.0 litre to its full potential.

SUMMARY

This is a fantastic opportunity to become the proud owner of the sought after MGC GT automatic. With a 3.0 litre straight-six, you get the distinctive bonnet separating it from the other MG’s. This was restored in the late 1980s, standing it in good stead for several more years to come for the new lucky owner. Will it be you?

Ammontare dell'offerta Incremento
Da £0 a £9,999 £100.00
Da £10,000 a £49,999 £250.00
Da £50,000 a £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Superamento immediato dell'offerta
