NO RESERVE! - 1975 MGB GT Jubilee

The Background

The MGB GT was announced in 1965, three years after the launch of the ubiquitous “Roadster”. Timeless Pininfarina styling, a 2+2 grand tourer with the versatility of the hatchback and folding rear seat. Somewhat later, in 1975 to celebrate 50 years of the MG Car Company, a limited run of 750 MGB GT’s were produced; the Anniversary limited edition (otherwise known as the “Jubilee” model). Needless to say these have a special place in MG history and are highly regarded. Each one offered with a unique numbered plaque bearing the name of the first owner. Although the car was based on the newly introduced and often derided black rubber bumper model there is no doubt that the combination of dark racing green Anniversary paintwork, gold stripes and the specially painted black and gold “V8” wheels particularly suit this vehicle. The epitome of GT motoring and affordable style.

The History

The current owner bought the car on a local advertising website in Swansea and has owned the car for the last 6 years, but the owner is now starting to struggle with getting in and getting out of the vehicle, so sadly, it’s time for the car to move on to a new owner.

The Paperwork

The car comes with lots of paperwork from over the years which is great. However, the “golden nugget” with this car is the Certificate of Authenticity signed by the site owner of the Jubilee Owners Club, confirming the limited-edition nature of this car being 1 of only 751 made (this being number 654).

The Interior

The interior has black carpet and navy blue seats, which is all original. There are seatbelts in the back, where you will find a “bench” style seat, which was the seats of choice during this era. The door cards are in good condition and are finished in black, and fully operational window winders. I am told that all electrics and everything works inside the car, with exception of the fuel gauge. The owner stated that even after filling up, the gauge will only ever go to ¼ full (this apparently is a fault with the fuel sender). There are rust spots on the door sills, as you can see from the images, but, as far as we could tell this hasn’t gone all the way through but would require attention. The chairs and carpet etc will require some tlc to bring it back up to life, and the inside just needs some finishing touches to bring it back to its former glory. The owner thinks that the sunroof was added later, however the owner doesn’t have any “proof” of this. The steering wheel looks and feels in lovely original condition.

The Exterior

This car is a lovely looking car, however, unfortunately it will require work to the outside. There are numerous spots of rust over the vehicle which will require attention. We have tried to capture as much as we could with our photographs. The sills, areas around the doors, the roof and front and rear bumpers will need looking at. This absolutely doesn’t take away from what a lovely looking car this is finished in, of course British Racing Green finished off with gold lines down the side which match the wheels.

The Mechanics

The owner of the car has stated that mechanically the car runs very well. Whilst there, the owner did move the car and the car started first time every time and there didn’t seem to be any visible leaks, or smoke. The car has had a recondition engine, and sounds fantastic once started up, and as I said, there are no visible leaks in the time we were there. All electrics do apparently work and the car drives very well.

The Appeal

The MGB GT needs absolutely no introduction. They are wonderful cars that are rich in history. The Jubilee Edition has a fun fact that they originally built 750 – however, a certain Mr Clarkson wrote one off on Top Gear and so they had to make another one… Therefore, technically 751 were made…. Now that’s a conversation starter at any party!
Although this car requires some love and attention, this doesn’t distract from how wonderful the car is. It would be really lovely for this to go to someone who could bring it back to life and make that historic green paint work shine once again!

This Number 654 is registered with J.U.L.E. the MGB Jubilee & L.E. Owners Club. The register established in October 2007 and dedicated to all special edition MGB's, MGC's and Midgets which left the Abingdon factory between 1962 and 1980. See www.mgbjubilee.com

Ammontare dell'offerta Incremento
Da £0 a £9,999 £100.00
Da £10,000 a £49,999 £250.00
Da £50,000 a £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Superamento immediato dell'offerta
