Loosely based on the Ford Mustang the Ford Capri was built for the UK and European market being marketed as an inexpensive, fast and fun car, selling nearly 1.9 million units throughout its 17-year production run.
Offered with a variety of trim levels and engines from 1.3 litre to the 3.0 V6 they featured MacPherson struts with disc brakes at the front and a four speed all-synchromesh gearbox.
In 1981, with ever-stringent emission and safety regulations looming the Capri ditched their 3.0 litre engine and continued through their final production years with the more efficient and emission friendly 2.8 V6 fuel injected engine, which gave the Capri model a new lease of life.
THE HISTORY
The current owner, a Ford Capri enthusiast, bought this car (his fifth Capri) around four years ago with a wealth of service history and receipts from a fellow enthusiast who had owned and obviously cherished the car for the previous 26 years.
The car was, and still is, in exceptional condition and in these last four years the car has mainly been used to attend and take part in various classic car shows and Capri club meetings, picking up the odd prize along the way.
The car has always been garaged during his ownership and regularly serviced as the stack of receipts detail.
THE PAPERWORK
The current MOT expires in April 2022.
The V5 is present showing five previous owners and there are numerous MOTs verifying the car’s mileage together with a large file of receipts for repairs and servicing done throughout its life.
The car comes with two sets of keys, and all the original owners’ manuals and books.
THE INTERIOR
The two-tone grey cloth Recaro seats and interior generally is all original and in great condition throughout, with carpets, headlining and door cards all being nice and clean with no issues to speak off. The basic but functional fascia appears to have no cracks or dents and all the instruments are clear and working. It even comes with the original floor mats.
Someone has added a map light, for those days prior to Sat Navs, but everything is otherwise standard and original with the benefit of a tilt and slide sunroof.
The original radio is a nice touch and its in full working order receiving its signal through the automatic electric aerial.
THE EXTERIOR
The relatively rare red paintwork is deep and glossy with only a few minor areas of bubbling paint or sign of corrosion to be found around the car. There are a couple of very small dents, one in the roof and one on the bonnet, but otherwise it looks great with the pinstripes down the side and those pretty pepper-pot wheels, which are almost as-new and shod with relatively new tires.
All the lights and tinted glass are nice and clear and the bumpers and side trim are free from any dents or dings and the black rear boot spoiler is in excellent condition. A few rubber seals are beginning to show signs of their age, the black window frames aren’t perfect and the offside rear light cluster has some small cracks to the lens, but that’s fairly normal on a 36 year old car.
The boot is clean and dry and contains the original jack, spare wheel and tool kit although the rear parcel shelf has a few cracks in it.
Under the bonnet is very clean and tidy and free from any sign of oil or coolant leaks and reflects the level of care this car has enjoyed through the years.
THE MECHANICS
The car drives well with no issues to report and has been regularly maintained and serviced through the years.
There are receipts for various parts that have been replaced over the years but there has been no major restoration work carried out on the vehicle and it appears to be a genuine and honest car that has just been very well looked after. The benefits of such care and attention are plain to see.
THE APPEAL
The Ford Capri is an important and iconic car in UK motoring history and the 2.8 Injection model was one of the finest versions of them all, delivering great performance, handling and sports coupe styling.
It was marketed back in the day as ‘the car that you’ve always promised yourself’ and, with its classic car status firmly established, that advertising slogan still seems very relevant today, so get bidding for this lovely original example of the fabled 2.8 Injection Capri.

Superamento immediato dell'offerta
