The Mercedes-Benz 124 Series, essentially the first E-Class, is regarded by many as one of best-engineered cars that the German company ever made. Sturdy, solid and beautifully made, the model was a great seller globally.
While the saloon was the volume model, it’s those with two doors that are most collectable and this is one of them – a 230CE Coupé, finished in smart Diamond Blue Metallic and repainted by its bodyshop-owning vendor, who has had the car as part of his private collection for the past five years.
He’s now downsizing his collection to create space for business expansion, so is reluctantly letting it go to a new home.

C124 interiors are sturdy but often show signs of bolster wear to the driver’s seat where the foam spills out – but not this one. It has had seat covers on it and the fabric is still in really good order.
The interior is superb and the carpets, door cards and wooden dash inlays are in great condition, while all four electric windows work perfectly, dropping down to give a gorgeous pillarless profile. It features electric ‘arms’ that present the seatbelts to both passengers when you open the doors and these both still work perfectly.
There are no cracks on the dashboard nor any fading to the veneers or warped door cards. All of the switchgear and controls appear to work as they should.

The last owner bought the C124 five years ago and has had it as part of his private collection. He runs a vehicle bodyshop and had any rust removed and car repainted by his staff.
It’s finished in smart Diamond Blue metallic with darker bumpers and lower body trim, as two-tone tints were very much a thing for Mercedes-Benz in the early 1990s. It sits on smart 16-inch AMG Sportline alloys, which were offered as an option across various of the company’s cars in the 1990s.
It’s in great order overall, with no signs of any visible corrosion nor are there any dents or damage to the bodywork. The vendor says the underside is also very solid with no signs of rust.

Mercedes-Benz’s 2.3-litre four had a long life across multiple models and was known for its reliability and longevity. It still is today.
The vendor reports that this one is in great order, with no known issues. It starts and drives well and holds good oil pressure and he says it performs well in all gears. It will be serviced before sale and supplied with a new MOT.
