2001 Porsche Boxster 2.7 (986)

***Vendor Supplied Images***

Highlights

  • A true “golden combination” car: low mileage, few owners, high service record
  • Just three fastidious owners in 21 years
  • Genuine mileage 29,406 since new (1,363 miles annually – present owner only 395 miles p.a)
  • Beautiful colour combination
  • Perfect service history

The Appeal

Read and learn – gaze in admiration. This is a lesson in how to care for a quality car, and a notable example of ideal ownership. The car hasn’t seen rain since 2003, to start with.

Garaged during winter months and poor weather spells, and snug under its own genuine Porsche cover on the driveway in summer, this delightful and original Boxster is in fantastic condition overall, and will draw admiration wherever it goes.

There’s not a single aftermarket item on the car. Colour combination is just sensational. Finally, at this mileage, and with this history record, it also has to be an excellent investment.

The History and Paperwork

Y307 KRX was assembled Spring 2001 at Valmet’s plant in Usikaupunki, Finland. Valmet was a contract assembler (engines were made in Stuttgart and shipped up there) until 2008 for Boxster and Cayman, and had a stellar reputation for quality – the 200-yr old company is a leading global developer and supplier of technology, automation and services for the pulp, paper and energy industries.

All Porsche forums will tell you that the Valmet-assembled cars are every bit as good.
  • Shipped to Porsche Zentrum Würzburg May 2001, thence delivered to HR Owen, Hatfield
  • Two previous owners; the vendor bought the car in 2015 from a friend who had owned and cared for it since 2003
  • V5C present and correct. Two keys.
  • Superb precise service history – every MoT present since 2006, on-the-dot Spring annual servicing (bills present) at a combination of OPCs and independent Porsche specialists
  • In 2016 the car took 1st place at Beaulieu MM’s Independent Porsche Enthusiasts’ Club meet as the “best original factory complete Boxster 986”. Trophy comes with the car!
  • Original booklets, incl. owner’s manual, service book, CD/radio, NavTrak

The Interior

  • Still smells like new!
  • Original black floor mats from Porsche Zentrum Würzburg present, correct and excellent
  • Underlying Savannah sand-colour carpets are spotless
  • Stunning deep mustard leather provides a great contrast to the blue bodywork
  • Aside from a little bolster wear on driver’s seat, there’s nothing to suggest 21 years age
  • Switchgear and all electrics show little signs of wear, all in good working condition
  • Excellent doorcards, clean and scuff-free
  • 99% scratch-free sills (one very small mark on driver’s side) – in a car this low, that’s a considerable achievement
  • Original Porsche CDR-22 single-CD player/radio
  • Front boot holds spare space-saver wheel (never used) with locking wheelnut, breakdown triangle (never used) complete Porsche handtool kit
  • Rear boot (yes, it’s a mid-engine car ..) with access points for home maintenance (fluids, oil etc.) has seen little use and has a load-carrier mat

 The Exterior

  • Original Porsche alloys are almost unmarked
  • Correct quality rubber – 255/40 ZR 17 to rear and 205/50 ZR 17 to front, all Continental Sport Contact premium quality tyres with plenty of tread remaining
  • Exquisite Lapis Blue Metallic paintwork lightens with the sun out and deepens with cloud
  • Small stonechip mark in windscreen since 2005, has occasionally appeared on MoT advisories but no deterioration
  • There are a few tiny paint cracks on the rear bumper; a few marks on the front bumper; four or five small stonechips on bonnet
  • Rear mudflaps are worn and worthy of replacement
  • Electric hood works exactly as it should, no tears or damage, no frosting or weather-related discolouration of the rear screen (in fact it’s so good it looks like glass)
  • Reversing sensors, handy for that tight garage ..
  • Original and tailored Porsche outdoor cover, which zips neatly into its own storage bag

 The Mechanics

  • 2.7 litre boxer flat-6 mid-mounted, 220 bhp. 0-60 in 6.5s, top speed 155 mph
  • Rear main oil seal (RMS), exhaust flange gasket replaced at 25,800 miles
  • New Bosch alternator also at 25,800 miles
  • The regular-as-clockwork annual servicing (oil change every time) has provided for an annual opportunity to closely inspect oil for the tiny metal shavings that potentially indicate intermediate shaft (IMS) bearing failure: nothing to report – and the low-but-regular mileage suggests that this isn’t remotely likely to prove a problem anytime soon
  • Oct 2022 MoT suggests front brake pads wearing thin, plus brake hose has slight corrosion to ferrule nearside front
  • The car starts, accelerates and pulls strongly: tight and responsive, it’s still an absolute blast to drive - even at 21 years old it feels so very young ..
  • NavTrak tracker fitted 2001, never used

 Summary

There are plenty of tired 986 Boxsters still about – that legendary build quality – but this one’s something different. If you’re looking for a prime-condition low-mileage and very original example of “the car that saved Porsche”, look no further. And when measured against 911 prices, these represent extraordinarily good value as an investment.

There are a few little marks and imperfections here and there, but you’ll need to know where they are to even see them – and if you did want to sort them, it’s a (small) job for a detailer rather than a bodyshop.

It’s hard to understand how anyone could exercise the self-restraint involved in only doing 400-odd miles every year in such a beautiful (and beautifully made) little sports car – if the super flat-6 isn’t enough for you, with its low centre of gravity providing such brilliant handling, then that lovely interior simply beckons!

Ammontare dell'offerta Incremento
Da £0 a £9,999 £100.00
Da £10,000 a £49,999 £250.00
Da £50,000 a £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Superamento immediato dell'offerta
