The original design of the DB7 was based upon the design of the Jaguar XJ41, which was set to replace the XJS in the late 80’s. Scrapped under a cost cutting exercise by Ford, (the new Jaguar owners), the XJ41 was shelved, and later this design would go on to become the XK8. Purchased by Ford, Aston Martin were offered the shelved project which would be finished off with parts sourced from the Ford parts bin, producing the DB7 in 1994.
This ran up until 1999, when the newly designed DB7 Vantage and the Vantage Volante made their debut at the Geneva Motor Show. The name Vantage was added to the coupe and Volante to the convertible, plus they gained the monstrous 6.0 litre V12 engine with 420 bhp on tap.
The V12 needed more cooling than the previous 6-cylinder, which is where the larger front grille came from, ensuring the V12 got enough air to keep it cool.
The Volante also received stiffer springs over the Vantage. Sales of the DB7 Vantage Volante were 2046 units, making it today a much sought after model.
This seller of this superb 2002 Aston Martin DB7 Vantage, has owned the vehicle since 2010. The car has had just 3 former keepers who have clearly cherished it as much as the seller has, with it covering only 16,945 miles in its 20 year life.
What’s nice to see is that, although the Aston has such low mileage, it has been regularly serviced regardless of how many miles have been covered from year to year. This does bring us onto the reason for the sale of the vehicle.
Whilst it’s been an absolute pleasure to own and have parked up in the garage, there waiting when you need it, the lack of use has increased, which can be seen and backed up with the MOT history and service history, meaning the seller has now decided to let the car go to someone who will enjoy it.
What more could you ask for? A full service history, an extensive selection of previous invoices listing every part and work carried out, and the full complement of handbooks are present, including the radio instructions and owners binder. All the previous MOT certificates have been kept and there are 2 keys present.
There is a valid MOT on the Vantage which runs until the 15th April 2022, but the seller will be putting a full 12 months on at the end of the auction, ready for the new lucky owner.
Inside, this stunning 2002 Aston Martin DB7 Vantage is finished with Forest Green and Parchment leather. The dashboard is covered in the matching Forest Green leather, which is all in excellent order. The electric seats are working as they should. There is some very light age related creasing to the leather on the driver’s bolster, but this could easily be treated by a leather specialist if desired.
The instruments are bright and clear as you would expect, with no warning lights displayed when the engine is running, and the odometer is showing a reading of just 16,945 miles. Moving across the dashboard to the centre, the wood veneer is in excellent condition, as is the switchgear. The only thing we need to point out is the radio, whilst it works the display does not. The gear knob and steering wheel show little signs of any wear.
The deep pile green carpets show no excessive wear, other than a few light scuffs to the driver’s heel pad. The inside of the convertible roof is also in very good condition, with no issues to report. Moving into the rear, and the seats don’t look to have been used a great deal, if at all, therefore they are unmarked.
Into the boot area and this is also nice and clean, with the warning triangle and burgundy and green Aston Martin umbrella in place on the boot lid. Under the false floor is the tool kit and two cans of tyre weld, supplied as standard, and to the right is the Becker CD multichanger.
Finished in Buckinghamshire Green Paintwork, the DB7 looks stunning, and such low mileage can clearly be seen here. Starting at the front of the car and you would not believe this was a 2002 vehicle, there are only a minimal amount of very small chips to mention, and truthfully that is being quite picky. The fog lights and headlights are excellent, with nothing to report. The bonnet aligns up as you would expect with an equal panel gap around the 3 sides.
Around to the sides, the sleek smooth lines of the Aston are uninterrupted, with no dings or knocks. The windows are all in good order, with no scratches to mention. The windscreen is also heated and the seals are in excellent order. The doors align as they should, and the chrome door handles are in good order, with no tarnishing.
To the rear, like the rest of the vehicle, everything is straight and equal. The lights are free from any chips or cracks and the badges are all in good order. Fitted as an optional extra when new are medium bore exhaust tailpipes.
The roof has clearly spent a lot of time up, as the amount of creasing to the material, which is often found when they have spent a lot of time down, is at a minimum. The roof is operated by unclipping two clips in the front of the car and a touch of a button sees the roof unfold, you then cover it with the leather tonneau cover.
The ten spoke alloy wheels are in excellent condition with no kerb damage to be seen or corrosion to the faces of the wheels. The Bridgestone tyres are new and have covered less than 1,000 miles.
6.0 litres of Aston Martin’s finest V12 fill the engine bay of the DB7 Vantage Volante, producing 420bhp and 400 lb-ft of torque at 5,000 rpm. The DB7 will see 0-60 mph in 5 seconds and a limited top speed of 165 mph.
The engine, as you would expect with just 16,945 miles covered, fires up just as it should and sounds fantastic! The DB7 is reported to run and drive as you would expect for a 17,000 mile car, changing smoothly through the 5-speed automatic gearbox.
There are no untoward noises coming from the transmission or suspension, and bringing the 1920 kg to a halt are the huge drilled discs which pull the car up in a straight line.
One thing the seller has upgraded is the radiator expansion tank. These are reported to be prone to cracking and so the seller has had an aluminium one fabricated and fitted to eliminate this.
From one of Britain's most prestigious luxury sports car manufacturers, this 2002 Aston Martin DB7 Vantage Volante is something that is sure to generate a huge amount of interest.
With just 16,945 miles showing at the time of our visit, the Aston has a full service history and MOT mileage history to confirm the genuinely low mileage. And if that’s not enough, you only have to take a look at the condition of this exceptional 2002 DB7.
