The Background

The VW Golf is a car that really needs no introduction. The German automakers unveiled this model late in 1997 as a successor to the MK3, which was already a massive hit. The MK4 was aimed to be a bit more upmarket, with a more luxurious interior and greater tech packed within, and thanks to the great success it had after hitting the market, it became the best selling car in the whole of Europe in 2001. Golf’s have been, and will continue to be, the go-to small family car that the world adores.

The History

Believed to be owned within a single family over the years, this little Golf hasn’t gone very far with only an average of 2,000 miles per year, it has been more than likely used as a small family car for small trips to the shops, maybe some school runs on the odd occasion. Due to such little usage not much is known about the overall history of the car itself.

The Paperwork

Relevant paperwork is available for the vehicle including service paperwork, relevant MOT certificates and the V5C which is ready for transfer of ownership.

The Interior

Finished in black cloth, the interior of this Golf is very presentable, with all of the stitching completely intact and no sign of any rips or damage throughout any of the front or rear seats. The seat padding still appears to be plump and comfortable with no signs of sagging - this is thanks to the very little usage it has had over the years. The steering wheel does show some signs of wear as to be expected, however there is no damage apparent, just some patina in the form of some colour fading. The instrument cluster still functions as it should and the numbers are still clearly visible, the same can be said for all of the screen printed text and symbols around the likes of the light control dial, indicator stalk, centre console control panel etc. Everything is in great working order, and even the tape deck is still there! Talk about retro, eh?! Time to break out the old tapes and blow off the dust.
The floor carpets are in great condition both front and rear with no worn out patches or colour fading, and all of the interior plastics appear to be in great shape from what we can see, including those on the door cards and centre console. The door cards are in great shape with the cloth panels still intact with no signs of damage, and the screen printed markings on the window switches are still clear and visible.

The Exterior

Beautifully presented and completely OEM. Finding a Golf in this sort of shape is becoming more and more like finding a needle in a haystack, these little cars were (and still are) extremely popular, and for good reason. Starting from the front of the car, the front headlights are in great shape with no signs of fading and no cracks or splits on the plastic lenses. The front bumper appears to be in great condition, no nasty  scuffs here, and the plastic bumper trim appears to have retained its nice dark black colour instead of fading to grey over time. On the front driver's side wing, just beside the side of the headlight, there does appear to be some kind of stone chip or mark visible, however this is a very small blemish when you consider the rest of the vehicle. The front grill is still intact and the chrome VW badge hasn’t lost any of its shimmer either! It’s nice to see a MK4 so clean and free of corrosion.
The wheels appear to be in good condition with only minimal markings and what appeared to be a small bit of peeling or corrosion on one of the spokes on the passenger side rear wheel. The centre caps have faded or reacted over time and could do with replacing, a cheap and easy fix though. The doors are all in good shape as are the plastic trims moulded onto them, and all 4 arches appear to be free from corrosion which just goes to show how wonderfully kept this MK4 is.
Toward the rear of the Golf, the tail lights show no signs of colour fading or any cracks in the lenses, the rear glass is in good functional condition and the badge designators are still present and in good shape, still showing off their chrome finish vividly. The rear bumper is in good shape showing no signs of any bumps or damage, and the plastic edging is still present and retains its deep black colour.

The Mechanics

Golf’s are renowned for their reliability, and still are to this very day. Propelled by a 1.6L I4 petrol engine producing 103BHP, mated to a 5-speed manual transmission, this little Golf is absolutely ideal for daily driving around towns and cities while retaining great miles per gallon for a petrol engine. The gearbox is smooth and precise as you’d expect it to be with such low mileage and the car drives happily with no unwelcome or unwanted knocks or bangs.
As presented by the engine bay, you can see how clean and well preserved the vehicle has been throughout its life, showing no signs of corrosion on the strut towers and even most of the bolt heads. All of the hoses appear to be in good condition, too. This little vehicle wants for nothing, and in good old Golf fashion, it will probably remain that way for quite some time.

The Appeal

A MK4 Golf, in this condition, with this mileage, is a very scarce thing to come across. Most of these have moon mileage and horrible bodywork, but this little gem has been preserved beautifully and we can appreciate just how few are left in this lovely condition. Even an avid VW enthusiast would be inclined to get involved with this - so don’t let it slip through your fingers!

Ammontare dell'offerta Incremento
Da £0 a £9,999 £100.00
Da £10,000 a £49,999 £250.00
Da £50,000 a £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Superamento immediato dell'offerta
