The Background

Introduced in 1955 and produced for 14 years until 1969 with a total of 15,347 bikes built, the BMW R69 family of bikes rely on the tried-and-tested air-cooled, 594cc boxer-twin engine, putting out between 35 and 42bhp depending on the model.

The sport-focused R69S model was unveiled in 1960, designed as high-powered, high-compression variants with a 42bhp engine, and a mechanically similar R69US model was also available between 1968 and 1969.

Highly regarded by the motoring press, Cycle World magazine summed up the R69S by stating it is “fast enough to handle any encounter, and it has attributes that are, in touring, infinitely more valuable than mere speed.”

The History

The subject of a comprehensive and in-depth sympathetic restoration following our vendor’s purchase in early 2020, resulting in a bike that has been entirely overhauled from a mechanical and safety perspective, yet retains its gorgeous, hard-earned patina and matching chassis/engine numbers.

Our vendor is also quick to note that the oil slingers have been stripped, cleaned and refurbished - a fact that will no doubt be a major plus point for any knowledgable BMW motorcycle enthusiast.

In total, over €5,360 Euros have been spent on this bike’s restoration, which culminated in July 2020 and a mileage reading of 28,090 kilometres.

In the year since the bike was out-shopped, it has seen regular use at the hands of our vendor, with the bike being ridden down to the south of France from Lyon, before traversing the country back to London. Whilst in London, the bike was ridden on a daily basis, before it was driven back to Lyon.

The Paperwork

Included with the bike is the French title of ownership, conformity documents, extracts from the BMW classic archives, numerous invoices from the vendor’s own maintenance, and the invoice from the aforementioned restoration totalling to over €5,360.

The Interior

Being a bike, there is no ‘interior’ to speak of, strictly.

However, the seat is in excellent condition with only the most minor signs of wear to the edges from being ridden. The handlebars wear a lovely hard-earned patina finish with fresh grips, whilst the edges of the fuel tank are in excellent condition.

The Exterior

Retaining its age-related patina and wear from years of enjoyment, the bodywork, frame and headlight surrounds are in weathered condition but have a charming character about them, hiding the fact that the bike has been mechanically overhauled to a very high standard.

The chrome detailing on the bike and engine is in generally very good condition, showing only some light pitting from regular use, whilst the exhaust is in excellent shape throughout.

The correct model-related BMW badging is present, along with additional badges from throughout the bike’s history.

The Mechanicals

Situated between the frames, the classic air-cooled boxer-twin engine is in rude health, having evidently proven itself with enthusiasm following the extensive refurbishment at the hands of GP Restauration in Craponne.

From a visual standpoint, there are no signs of any oil or fluid leaks, nor any signs of damage or issues with the engine block or ancillaries.

The vendor reports the bike’s engine is in excellent condition and rides fantastically, with no known faults or issues.

The Appeal

With classic styling, characterful air-cooled engine and impressive performance, it’s no wonder the R69S is still revered by riders to this day.

This particular 1969-registered example has been extensively restored and presents in astounding mechanical condition throughout, yet retains its classic unrestored appearance for additional charm and character.

Se viene fatta un'offerta nei 3 minuti prima della chiusura dell'asta, la scadenza di questa viene automaticamente estesa di 2 minuti per permettere agli altri offerenti di reagire e, se lo desiderano, di rilanciare.

Incrementi di offerta automatica

Se la sua offerta massima è uguale o inferiore al prezzo di riserva, la sua offerta massima sarà applicata per intero se lei è il miglior offerente.
Se siete il miglior offerente e fate un'offerta massima superiore a quella di riserva, la riserva verrà automaticamente inserita come prima offerta.
