The Appeal
The Land Rover Series and now Defender range is the stuff of legends. Used on every continent and for almost every imaginable use, from ambulances, through search and rescue, to the school run the classic shape is instantly recognisable. Built with simplicity in mind to enable ease of maintenance and modification, they make fantastic vehicles no matter what you do with them.
This Series II is ready to drive and with an extensive restoration (described by the owner as 99% complete and being a “nut and bolt” restoration) having been carried out by the current owner it presents in excellent mechanical condition and it will provide the new owner with a reliable classic that's ready for both on and off road use. If you’d love a Landy (and who wouldn’t!) this Series II is not to be missed.

The Interior
- Excellent condition throughout
- Rear fold-out bench seats on both sides
- Galvanised frame for the soft top
- Divider between front and rear has the original paintwork showing a beautiful patina
- Rubber floor mats front and rear
- Front seats are in excellent condition
- With the exception of the divider as above, all of the interior has been resprayed and presents superbly
- All of the dials, gauges and controls work as they should
- Sympathetically restored to original specification
The Exterior
- Excellent overall condition
- Looks fantastic finished in green
- Resprayed as part of the restoration and in fantastic condition
- All five wheels present superbly and come equipped with the correct tyres
- New Exmoor soft top in 2020 and in superb condition

- Folding windscreen
- Drivers door takes some effort to fully close (the vendor thinks it’s due to the new seals)
- The vendor informs us that the car has had extensive work to the body and panels as part of the restoration
- Light lenses, trim, windows and badges all present very well
The Mechanics
- Extensive mechanical restoration carried out by the current owner with invoices to document it
- New wiring loom
- New ignition system including distributor cap, points, condenser and HT leads
- New sills all round
- Starts easily and idles well
- No unwanted noises that we could hear
- The owner tells us that as part of the restoration he carried out extensive work to the chassis
- Engine bay and engine present well
- Underside appears to be excellent condition with many new parts visible and has recently been undersealed
- The owner informs us that it drives as it should; accelerating well, shifting smoothly (for a Series II Land rover with no synchro on 1st and 2nd gear!) and stopping quickly
Summary
This series II has been comprehensively restored by the current owner to a very high standard, but due to a recent lack of use it’s now ready for a new home. With a huge selection of invoices documenting all of the recent work and in excellent condition throughout it’s one that’s not to be missed.
