Description

1976 Land Rover 101 Forward Control Radio Body & Sankey wide track trailer LHD.

For sale is my 1976 Land Rover 101 Forward Control Radio Body, this is one of the nine 101’s converted for Nuclear, biological and chemical reconnaissance duties during the first gulf war. It was fitted with sand-fly air sampling equipment that could detect the presence of NBC agents in the air. It served in the military from new until it was released from service in 1996, it has had five civilian owners since then, myself being the fifth.

I bought it in November 2017, it was in good condition at the time but didn’t have the correct camouflage pattern and was missing lots of its gear. So, I spent a few years carrying out a sympathetic restoration. This includes but is not limited to the following…

- Re-painted in correct camouflage pattern.
- Converted the back into a simple camper set up with folding bed & aluminium kitchenette which has a 240-volt three pin socket inside the cupboard. Gas cooker & bottle included in the sale.
- Fitted a diesel heater, heater is mounted on the roof, there is a control panel inside.
- Fitted an external 240 volt hook up.
- Made a secondary battery box on the driver’s side which holds two 12v leisure batteries, which are charged from the military split charge system (24volt) or can be charged by the 240-volt external power hook up with a built-in battery charger as seen in the photos.
- Fitted a 24 volt to 12-volt inverter which is mounted on the wall behind the driver’s seat.
- Fitted 12-volt sockets on the side of the secondary battery box behind the driver’s seat.
- Fitted a heavy-duty battery cut off switch on the main battery box.
- Fitted a NOS Knocken winch.
- Fitted a Fairey overdrive.
- Sourced NOS shovel & pickaxe.
- Replaced all of the upholstery, fitted aftermarket sun visors & interior lights.
- Fitted a period dashboard mounted map reading light.
- Fitted discrete LED spotlights on the front.

I bought it as it was quite original and appealed to me being matching numbers example, I have had six 101’s over the years and this has been the best of all of them. It has been well looked after before & during my ownership where it has been regularly serviced and maintained regardless of cost. Its current odometer reading is 29617 KM, I believe this to be genuine given the vehicles condition. The mileage will increase slightly as I am still using it to go to classic vehicle events. It has proved itself to be very reliable, having taken me and my wife on the north coast 500 route and on road trips around Scotland.

Included in the sale is my wide track Sankey trailer, I bought this around the same time as I bought the 101, it was in good condition at the time but was bronze, green. I removed the tub to re-paint it, whilst I was at it, I re-painted the chassis and replaced parts as required. The brakes have since been re-built with new callipers and pads, everything works on it and it has accompanied us on many of our long-distance trips. Also included in the sale is a 9x9ft British army tent which I have adapted to fit onto the side of the 101 as you can see in the photos, it is in excellent condition the canvas is like new.

I would like £27, 000 for it including the trailer & tent etc. Serious offers considered.

To arrange a viewing or for any questions please don’t hesitate to get in touch. The 101 is located near Aberchirder, Aberdeenshire. Nationwide transportation can be arranged at the buyers cost and we are happy to assist with worldwide shipping.
