Description
This fabulous car is a (rare!) genuine example in its original bodyshell and has been rebuilt by its fastidious owner to exact original specification between 2012 and 2016. This long four year restoration covered every part of the car, nothing was left unrestored.
Firstly, the bodyshell was rotisserie rebuilt with new panels as required and including a pair of new (Ford old stock) inner front wings.
The (original) engine was totally rebuilt as were the (original) gearbox and Weber carburetors.
All body seals and rubbers were replaced, and a new headlining was fitted. All seat covers, carpets, door trims were replaced with new. The original steering wheel, brake servo and radiator were all rebuilt.
A complete new wiring loom was fitted, the wheels were all refurbished and all chrome parts were re-plated.
The rear axle was rebuilt and all suspension parts were shot blasted, powder coated and rebuilt with new bushes, joints etc.
A new fuel tank and sender were fitted.
The car's file contains a huge number of invoices which go some way to showing how I spent more on the car than I am selling it for - one of the joys of restoring classic cars!
Prior to restoration, I had the car inspected by Andy Morrell from the Lotus Cortina Register - Andy had no hesitation in confirming that it was an original example, and his letter confirming this is in the file.
The car was off the road from 1988 until my extensive restoration finished in 2016, so exact mileage is unknown, but mileage since everything was rebuilt has only been around 1, 000 miles, and thus the reason that it is reluctantly now for sale.
Perhaps you can understand the level of detail that I want from my classics by looking at the toolkit - the unused jack still has its original labels and took me ages to find and cost a lot!
Finally, a full (5) set of tyres were ordered from Longstone Tyres and a complete stainless steel exhaust system including manifold was fitted.

I raced a Lotus Cortina Mk. 1 in Classic Saloon racing a number of years ago, so I knew a lot about them before I purchased this car, and so I knew what to look for when I started looking for a genuine example.
As an additional safeguard, I always MOT my classics even though they do not need it - this car will have a new MOT when sold.
