LOTUS EXCEL SE 1987 in Monaco White. Full Grey leather interior.
This car is in excellent condition throughout. It has had a continuous rolling restoration during the Thirteen plus years that I have owned it. It has been sympathetically restored using many genuine Lotus parts both new and second hand. I have tried to keep the car as original as possible.
In brief – SJ Sportscars had the car twice and adjusted the valve clearances, replaced the engine oil seals, put in a new Clutch, and swapped the gearbox for a 1991 box which I provided. They also carried out many other smaller operations. The prop-shaft has been pulled back and both UJs greased. The diff has been replaced with a refurbished 1991 unit and the front mounting plate welded and strengthened. All the steering system was renewed. New clutch, clutch master cylinder, clutch slave cylinder and connecting pipe. New rear Brake Discs and Shoes, all new Brake Calliper’s and flexible hoses. Upgraded Aluminium Radiator, water pump rebuilt by lotus bits, some hoses replaced, new cooling fans, new Otter switch and Thermostat. New Oil Cooler and hoses. Header tank restored. New Washer Bottle, Pump, Hoses and Jets. Front suspension completely rebuilt. Rear springs and dampers replaced. New front wheel bearings. New rear light units, bulbs, and bulb holders. New fuel breather pipe. New crash panels. New driver’s door Window Frame, Hinge Pin, and Door Handle. Boot, Bonnet and door seals replaced. Wiper Motor refurbished, Wiper Rack & Wheel box replaced, new Wiper arm & Blade, Wiper control box replaced. New Fuel Pump, Fuel Filter, and Starter Motor. New Battery just fitted. Wheels refurbished August 2023. Many other smaller jobs too numerous to list. The car is fitted with the upgraded Lotus Bit’s Headlamp Conversion for much improved night driving.
The previous Owner spent a lot of money on the interior. Nice headlining job, new carpets, and re-painted leather. PO also replaced the front brake discs and pads.
Good strong Engine. Good oil pressure. Uses very little oil or fluids
Starts easily and drives exceptionally well.
New Cambelt (changed February 2026).
Last oil change at 69530 on the dial. Oil changed very frequently during my ownership.
MOT until February 2027.
Agreed insurance value of £15 K.
Minor faults. Electric Mirrors not working – the mirrors were new Lotus replacements a few years ago, and the left/ right switch is new, so I suspect the control switch may be at fault but I was not able to locate the correct part. There are some small stone chips on the front bumper and between the fog lamps. A small amount of shallow surface cracking in the paintwork on the front bumper and near the light pods. There is slight damage to drivers footwell carpet – photo available. Various small age-related marks on the leather and dash (no tears). Small crack on the wooden instrument panel.
Includes: Original tool kit, High Quality Moltex Cover, and five large folders of invoices & information giving an extensive history of the car, proof of milage, and proof of the above information.
The car is fitted with an Ignitor ignition system (excellent) and an Omex adjustable rev-limiter but I do have the original parts. I also have the original radiator, an additional Spare Wheel, Spare distributor, and the original lights to go with the car.
The mileage showing is just over 70K. There is a documented speedo change at 12252 miles so this needs to be added. The actual milage is around 83K.
his is a great car! It has been very reliable. I have taken it on holiday many times including two 1400 mile trips around Scotland.
