After studies at the École pratique d'industrie de Saint-Étienne3, Émile Train worked for four years with his father as a mechanic and very early devoted himself to motorcycles as well as automobiles where he worked at De Dion-Bouton. Based in 1902 in Courbevoie, he designed his first motorcycle engine.
From 1909, he oriented himself towards aviation. He settled at the Châlons camp where he set up a workshop3. He quickly built his aircraft “No. 1”, entirely metallic. He adopted the monoplane configuration, with a low centre of gravity, which he would keep for his subsequent models. He progressed rapidly: less than two weeks after building his plane, he obtained his pilot’s licence on 9 August 1910 under number 167.
