Description
In August 1958, Volvo introduced the PV544, a more modern version of the PV444. These changes are the most important since the PV444 was launched in 1944.
The bodywork features a larger curved windscreen as well as a larger rear window, for better visibility.
The interior features a new dashboard with a padded top section for extra safety.
The speedometer is of the 'thermometer' type; a red band indicates the speed.
The rear bench is redesigned to improve comfort and offer space for an additional passenger.
This model also benefits from technical updates. The PV444 Volvo is only available with one engine option (except in North America).
With the arrival of the PV544, a second version was added. For the first time, a four-speed manual transmission was also available.
Under the bonnet, the PV544 was continually modernised. The most significant change occurred in 1961: Volvo fitted the famous B18 engine under the bonnet and a 12-volt electrical system.
The Volvo PV544 became one of the most successful rally cars of the late 1950s and early 1960s.
The Volvo we are offering here is a 1962 model, a Sport version equipped with the famous B18 engine with twin carburettors!
The car was restored by an enthusiast in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
What strikes you at the wheel is the sense of precision and solidity of the whole package.
Don’t expect a newly restored car; visually, you can already see a few signs of wear.
But a lovely classic Volvo for enthusiasts!
