Description
L’Atelier des 1000 is delighted to offer for sale this superb 1972 Brazilian-assembled Volkswagen Combi T1 Split, presented today in its iconic green and white, paired with a white and brown floral interior faithful to the spirit of the era.
A true icon of the 60s and 70s, the Volkswagen Combi T1 Split embodies the spirit of freedom, travel and sociability. Originally conceived as a versatile utilitarian vehicle, it quickly attracted a much wider audience, becoming a cultural symbol and an indispensable adventure companion around the world.
Produced in Brazil well after the end of European production, the Brazilian T1 preserves the Split’s iconic lines while benefiting from technical evolutions designed to improve reliability and everyday use, making it today a version particularly appreciated.
This example was first registered in 1972, then imported to France in 2022 by its current owner, who commissioned a complete restoration, both aesthetically and mechanically. Nearly €20, 000 of work has just been carried out, making it today a particularly reliable and appealing example.
Mechanically, the flat-4 was removed during the restoration, the engine underwent a full overhaul: crankshaft, bearings and camshaft were replaced, the engine seals fully redone and a new ignition system installed. During running-in, the engine has covered only 500 km since its overhaul, delivering smooth and pleasant operation, perfectly suited to leisure use and cruising, while respecting the character of the model.
The gearbox was removed and checked on this occasion. Its seals were completely renewed and it now guides and engages its ratios perfectly.
Road handling is sound and in line with a T1 Combi’s expectations; the rear dampers are new, the suspension components show no abnormal play, and the Pitman arm ball joints are new.
Braking has also benefited from a full overhaul, offering reassuring and balanced stopping power.
The wheels are in very good condition and accompanied by new chrome hubcaps, all fitted with recent tyres.
The paintwork speaks to the quality of the restoration and perfectly showcases the Split T1’s iconic lines.
The underbody is solid and free from structural corrosion. It has been tidied up in sheet metal work to ensure strength and presentation, then treated and painted to guarantee durable protection against corrosion.
Chrome is perfectly bright and completes the overall presentation.
The floral white and brown interior is in excellent condition, faithful to the Seventies spirit, and fully contributes to the charm and authenticity of this Combi.
It is equipped with a sunroof, which is watertight and functional, allowing a vast opening to the outside.
The door panels, seating and interior trim look very good and have been carefully restored.
All instrumentation is functional, and the cockpit offers a simple, typical ergonomics of Combi from this generation.
This Combi is ready to hit the road for travel. It is equipped with 2 roof-mounted luggage racks, a fridge, a sink with electric pump, 2 removable tables, a bunk bed, as well as numerous bespoke storage solutions, offering everything needed for a road trip in the best conditions.
Given the restoration, configuration and overall condition of this vehicle, we are asking for €49, 990. Trade-in and part-exchange possible.
