Description
Ferrari 400 GT, carbs, manual gearbox
I’m presenting you this car, I haven’t been a dealer for 20 years.
It’s a vehicle from my personal collection.
When I was younger, I spent a few years working for Ferrari Belgium, led by Mr Swaters, the Francorchamps workshop.
I know the Italian cars of the 1960s–1980s well.
I’m offering this extremely rare Ferrari 400 GT, carbs, manual. Obviously, as everyone knows, this model is much maligned, hence affordable, rarely in good condition, 85% of the cars on offer being imported from the United States.
But what should you know…
1. A Ferrari 400 with a GM three-speed automatic box, designed for an American V8 that doesn’t rev beyond 4, 500 rpm, remains a crime!
2. A Colombo V12 with injection… a second crime!
So, if you crave a double “ferraricide”, a 400 with injection and an automatic transmission is made for you.
Of the 400 GTs, carbs, manual gearbox, 167 were produced.
It’s estimated that about 100 remain roadworthy in the world.
Cherry on the cake, the one offered has never left its nest, long‑time property of the GP from Codogno, this Italian town 50 kilometres from Maranello, sadly known for having the highest mortality rate in Italy during the Covid pandemic.
Explaining this, the doctor must have made a new fortune and very probably equipped himself with an F12.
Anyway, this example is ultra‑rare; Enzo would surely have seen it go past his house.
It has been cared for by proper Italian specialists.
On its import from Italy, the vehicle was shown to the French importer who confirmed the original serial numbers of all components: engine, gearbox, axle, etc… Total matching.
To keep it simple, a list of very recent work carried out by me on this car, aimed at making it reliable and performing, is detailed on my blog.
Not convinced or wary…
A rolling Bitcoin you can stroke every day is better than a curve on a screen.
Personally, I’m 73, my future lies behind me, and the guaranteed rise in value of this machine no longer belongs to me.
