Very fine example of a Jaguar MK2 3. 8L, year 1962. It has the peculiarity of having been reliabilised for daily driving with, among others: power steering, 5-speed Getrag gearbox, front brake calipers with four pistons, Koni gas shocks, engine oil cooler kit, reinforced anti-roll bar, high-performance starter, high-flow cooling fan, stainless steel exhaust system...
Delivered new on 4 January 1962 in California, where it was restored in the 2000s, it later moved to Germany and was purchased in 2007 by the current owner. The Garnet colour, not original, endows it with a very particular charm, especially in sunlight when it shows all its radiance.
The bodywork is well-made, fairly well preserved. The gaps between the openings are satisfactory according to the expert.
No corrosion detected on the sills, longitudinals and floors.
The interior is well presented. The seats, door panels and dashboard are in very good condition. The headlining has no major faults.
The instrumentation is functional.
Regarding the engine, the current owner has installed a 4. 2L engine block fed by two SU carburettors. The car thus benefits from a more powerful displacement for greater flexibility and comfort. The original 3. 8L Matching Number engine is sold with the car and has been fully restored by a specialist.
The 4. 2L block has been opened for a complete overhaul. The road test during the appraisal allowed us to confirm its good running.
It is equipped with a 5-speed Getrag gearbox. The clutch kit was completely replaced in 2009.
The rear suspension system has been modified (replacing leaf springs). The braking system is much more efficient than original.
The car is maintained in a workshop specialising in classic British vehicles.
A slightly more powerful displacement than original (but with the option to refit the car’s original 3. 8L) for greater flexibility, a gearbox renowned for its efficiency, power steering and revised suspension... Like many owners, this one wanted to make his MK2 an easy daily runner without having to worry about reliability on every outing.
3. 8L engine sold separately (Matching Number verified by Jaguar certificate)
