Description
It is in a geopolitical situation comparable to the one we live in today (oil rationing following the Suez Canal crisis in 1956) that the British Motor Corporation decides to design a new economical car: the prototype of the future Mini is born in October 1957, a small 850 cc front-mounted transverse engine allows 80% of its length to be devoted to its occupants and their luggage. The definitive car is marketed in 1959 under the name Morris and Austin.
The 1960s would be the Mini’s heyday, bought by the stars of the era and victorious in rallying in its Cooper version. In 1967 several English manufacturers (including Austin) merge under the name British Leyland. Mini becomes a car brand in 1969 and will continue its career for three decades.
In 1989, the Mini s drop the AUSTIN badge for that of ROVER and a large number of special editions followed to keep driving the desire for the little English car. The "British Open" version quickly stands out as the most desirable of all; its specifications were as follows:
. British Racing Green metallic paint
. Chrome grille and bumpers
. 8-spoke alloy wheels
. Panoramic electric canvas sunroof
. Comfort beige velour upholstery
. Exclusive "BRITISH OPEN" stripes
This is precisely the model we are offering you: delivered new in June 1994, it changed hands in March 1996 to remain in the same owner’s hands until August 2025. Our Mini has been fitted with a magnificent burr walnut dashboard which adds a very luxurious and cosy look to its interior. With only 44, 700 km on the clock, it did not require restoration work. However, we have completely redone the paint and the wheels, fitted four new tyres. Mechanically, we have a substantial file of invoices and a MOT certificate, and we have just carried out a full service on this beautiful English car.
It is quite rare to find a British Open in such a lovely condition, with low mileage, traceable history and aesthetically flawless… Do take advantage of it!
