Porsche 928 4. 5 (1978) – Chassis No. 1062 One uncompromisingly restored early Porsche 928 The chassis No. 1062 is one of the very first examples of the Porsche 928. It combines an especially sought-after original specification with a complete restoration carried out by specialists in the Porsche 928 (TYP901 - - details above). Presented in its original 027 Indian Red (Indischrot) shade, paired with the iconic Pasha Black & White interior, this 928 is fitted with the highly desirable 5-speed manual gearbox. It also retains its distinctive, unique exterior door mirror on the driver’s side—a feature found on some of the very earliest production cars. Together, these details make it particularly appealing to collectors. Supplied new in Germany, this Porsche made its way to Algeciras, in southern Spain, in 1982, where it remained for nearly forty years. The region’s hot, dry climate played a major part in its excellent preservation and made it an ideal starting point for a top-level restoration. We acquired the car in Catalonia, near Barcelona, around three years ago. After several decades kept dry, our goal was to preserve all the authenticity that makes the first Porsche 928 such a joy. As a specialist workshop dedicated to the Porsche 928, with more than a dozen restorations in progress at all times, we know this model inside out. All work has been carried out in our own workshops. No corners were cut: every step was guided by respect for the original specification, mechanical reliability, and long-term preservation of the vehicle. The restoration began with a complete strip-down of the car so that each component could be assessed individually before any work was carried out. The bodywork was fully restored and then repainted in its original Glasurit 027 Indischrot colour, in line with factory specifications. The underbody, running gear and mechanical components were then cleaned by cryogenic treatment (dry ice blasting), a method designed to remove decades of grime while preserving the original finishes. Particular attention was paid to details specific to the very first 928s. The original, removable battery mount—unique to the 1978 model year before the adoption of a welded version from 1979—has therefore been carefully restored and preserved. Mechanically, the engine was completely removed to carry out the work in the best possible conditions. The cylinder heads received a full refurbishment, including machining, replacement of the head gaskets, and all upper engine seals. The engine bay was thoroughly cleaned before reassembly. As part of the mechanical reconditioning, the timing belt and the water pump were replaced. The suspension and braking systems were also restored to bring back the original handling characteristics and performance intended by Porsche. Although it doesn’t come with a complete service history, everything points to the stated 106, 500 kilometres being genuine. The outstanding condition of the mechanical components, the transmission, and above all the exceptional preservation of the cabin confirm that impression. The original Pasha Black & White interior has been very well preserved and shows a natural patina consistent with a Porsche that has been carefully looked after for nearly fifty years. The dashboard deserves particular mention: it is fully original, with no cracks and no distortion—an attribute that has become extremely rare on the early Porsche 928s. The seats, carpets, door cards and all trim also show exceptional preservation, suggesting a car with relatively low mileage. This restoration perfectly reflects our philosophy: preserve the vehicle’s original specification as much as possible, replace only what is necessary, and restore each mechanical component to the brand’s quality standards.
