PRESENTATION OF THE 1948 PANHEAD -
To celebrate its 45th anniversary, Harley-Davidson replaces its timeless but ageing FL Knucklehead with a more modern version equipped with a new OHV V-Twin engine topped with valve covers shaped like a frying pan (pan). This V2 thus inherited the name "Panhead". It features aluminium cylinder heads with four rotary valves, a 32mm Linkert carburettor and a four-speed gearbox. It powers the EL 61 and FL 74.
From 1953 onwards, the "Panhead" was only offered in 1200 cc and entered the legend of sacred monsters produced by the Milwaukee firm.
