The Appeal
The appeal of the post-war Nuova Fiat 1100 si common to many Italian saloons of the era: these cars look like regular, unuassuming three box saloons, not that much different to rivals from France, Britain and Germany. What sets them apart is how great they are to drive, because after all these cars were built by Italians, and all Italians are car enthusiasts.
This 1961 1100 is the ‘Familiare’ estate version and one of the final ‘H’ models that got a revised grille, better trim and the larger 1,089cc 4cyl petrol engine that provides extra zip. It also has an automatic gearbox. This wasn’t a standard option on the ‘61 1100 so is a very rare feature.
Restored some years ago in the fetching combination of cream and brown, this versatile Familiale presents well. The two-tone brown interior is in good order. It features two bench seats and, of course, a large estate rear body with side opening door.
Practical, rugged and very rare, this ‘61 1100 has a lot to commend it.
