The Appeal
If you’re going to take on recreating one of the most beautiful cars of the post-war years, best you get it right. That was the challenge Autotune faced when it developed this car, the Aristocat. That it was sanctioned and approved by Jaguar confirms that the objective was achieved.
The Aristocat was five-inches wider than the original to accommodate Jaguar XJ running gear, including straight-six engines. Starting in 1983, just 485 were sold. This one was built by the vendor and completed in 1988 in the classic combination of creamy Old English White with matching GKN alloys, a complementary red leather interior, and a tonneau. That torquey 4.2L motor is linked to a four-speed Jaguar fully synchromesh manual gearbox.
The odometer indicates that the car has covered fewer than 8,000 miles in the intervening 38 years. We can’t confirm that, but the condition and history file point in that direction. It is a really tidy and nicely detailed example with a few signs of use.
The joy of an Aristocat is that it looks to all but the trained eye exactly like an XK120, yet has the Jaguar-sourced performance and comfort of a much more modern car. Few Aristocats can be as good as this one.
The vendor says:
“Fun to drive ,most people admire the car for its looks and plenty of torque when needed.”
