The Appeal
To mark the final months of Karmann Beetle production, US customers got the chance to buy the special ‘Triple White’ edition. Featuring, perhaps not surprisingly, Alpine White paintwork, white leatherette seats, white vinyl roof and GT ‘Lemmerz’ wheels, these cars were limited to one per dealership with less than 2,000 believed produced.
Not surprisingly, these rare final edition cars are particularly collectable, adding to the appeal of a four-seat convertible that is already popular with enthusiasts. This car naturally began its life in the USA, where we’re told it lived in a dry state, before arriving in the UK in 1991. It has had just three registered keepers on this side of the pond, the previous one for 25 years.
The vendor tells us that they acquired it in 2024, shortly after it received a full service and attention to the front brakes, handbrake and a new fuel pump and hoses. It has covered just 400 miles since. The original GT steel wheels have been freshly powder coated and fitted with new old stock Michelin XZX tyres. As a Super Beetle, it benefits from McPherson strut front suspension, which the vendor notes makes it a surprisingly capable companion on Cotswolds roads.
The car presents well in photos and is said to be highly original. There are a few areas for that the buyer may want to note in photos, but we’re told the car starts and runs well so perhaps these could be treated as rolling improvements if desired.
All the usual Beetle rust spots are in very good and original condition, including under the rear seat. There are absolutely no signs of previous welding repairs. The body has never been filled over or repaired cheaply, it's simply been enjoyed, preserved and cared-for over the years.
