You need to buy this Rover. It’s an absolute steal and an amazing car. I never intended to part with it but circumstances change and sadly I have to.
The Tourer is basically an estate version of the sporty Coupe. It shares the same 2 litre T series engine and active suspension system. I replaced the engine in this car with a brand new Factory engine which was sold off when the Longbridge plant closed. It has done just 60k and runs as sweet as a nut. The water pipes which usually rust have all been replaced with Stainless Steel items and the hoses are all silicone. This includes the matrix hose which is a rare item.
It has been uprated with the ABS braking System from the Coupe and has the higher spec front bumper with driving lamps. All the suspension bushes have been replaced with polyurethane versions with the exception of the rear anti roll bar and the front lower arms. The catalytic converter was replaced last year with a genuine one from Rimmer Bros. The front struts were replaced less than 6 months ago.
The Bonnet, front wings, tailgate and all four doors were resprayed off the car just over a year ago. Three of the doors and the tailgate were brand new items. The tailgate has not been fitted I bought it because Rimmer Bros were selling them off cheap and there are a couple of blemishes on the original where a previous owner had a bike rack fitted and it scratched away some paint.
I have rebuilt the gearbox with steel cage bearings and new oil seals. The gear linkage has had the worn pins replaced with bolts and polyurethane bushes fitted to take out the slack that is common. The alternator has been replaced. The radiator brackets are polished Stainless Steel. Numerous bolts have been replaced with stainless steel ones. The water pump was replaced 16k miles ago, it turned out the original was fine and the slight leak I was chasing was a missing thermostat housing gasket.
It is fitted with a Mongoose Stainless Steel exhaust system as fitted to the Coupe. A new exhaust manifold was fitted at the same time as the engine. The front down-pipe and Cat are of course normal steel. The lambda sensor has been replaced. There is a fifth Alloy wheel without a tyre as I was going to start refurbishing them. (The steel spare wheel and tyre are present). The front wheel bearings have been replaced with genuine MG Rover ones in the last year and brand new hubs were used too. The near side outer CV joint has been replaced with a genuine MG Rover one.
The oil and filter were changed the week before the MOT using Fuchs Titan semi synthetic motor oil. The spark plugs were replaced at the same time. I fitted Magnecore Blue HT leads when I fitted the engine. The resistors for the heater motor have been replaced so that it works on all the speed settings as it should do. The front Discs and Pads have been replaced in the last 6 months. I renewed the Timing Belt a couple of days ago. There are probably other small things that I have forgotten.
I have spent thousands on this car. The recent paintwork alone was £1200. There is a thick folder full of receipts for all the parts and work done. This car has never been welded and is really sound. There will of course be some jobs to do, what do you expect from a 24 year old car. These are really rare now and it wouldn’t take much to make this presentable for historic vehicle shows. Just think of the picnic hamper you could bring in this! And 5 adults.
It has a full 12 months MOT and is good to go. Don’t be fooled by the price, it’s a reflection of how quickly I need to sell not the condition of the vehicle.
