Restored to the highest standards in 2010 at a cost of 19, 000 Euros, this Italian 1970 Fiat 500L is beautifully finished in Cioccolato. Believed to be one of just 50 cars finished in this stunning colour during a short production run lasting only a year.
The original 499cc engine having been rebuilt at great expense as part of the restoration, it runs sweetly as testimony to the high standard of workmanship. Used sparingly but on a regular basis since completion, the engine has proven itself reliable and trouble-free for its previous enthusiast owner. The gearbox too is the standard 500 unit retaining all-important originality.
With so many Italian imports having been cheaply restored and to a questionable standard, it is refreshing to find a car that has been finished to a high level of professionalism. The standard of work completed is evidence of the passion driving the restoration; truly no expense has been spared.
The bodywork has been beautifully prepared prior to painting addressing any issues with rust and corrosion. So often you will see shiny examples appearing to be rust-free only to find rot pushing through within months. This car however has been prepared to a very high standard, no cover-ups, just professionally prepared panels finished in stunning Cioccolato paint. The roof also appears to have been replaced at the time of restoration and remains completely unmarked.
Inside things remain in-keeping with the cars general originality. Here too things have been refreshed as part of the restoration with new carpets and well-presented tan coloured seating. The vinyl-covered dash found on the “luxurious” ‘L’ (Lusso) is unmarked and reflects the general condition of the interior.
The restoration was not limited to a superficial makeover but mechanically too it was overhauled with various new suspension, brake and steering components.
Wearing excellent Pirelli Cinturato tyres, the four professionally refurbished wheels are finished with a beautiful set of replacement hub caps.
Recently imported from Italy, this Left-Hand-Drive car is now registered with the DVLA and has been assigned an age-appropriate British registration. Fully prepared for use on UK roads, it will also receive a fresh MOT at the time of sale.
