Description
Our 1971 FIAT 500 L with 30, 072 miles on the odometer, the “Nuova 500” is a car conceived by Dante Giacosa and built by the Italian manufacturer Fiat between 1957 and 1975. Based on the concept of a mini car, it received an engine under 500 cm3, air‑cooled, developing from 13 hp at its release in 1957 up to 21 hp for the Sport version… A great many versions saw the light of day and some tuners even added their contributions to make the Fiat 500 a vehicle sold in more than 3. 8 million examples which today are extremely desirable and endearing.
The model we offer you is a very nice 110F model from 1971 (110 for the saloon bodied version and F for its variant). At the Geneva Motor Show in 1965, the specialised press described the F as the culmination and maturity of the 500 project…
In addition to the previous versions, it featured doors that opened against the wind (earlier models had “suicide doors”), a larger windscreen and an improved interior with higher quality finish. Although it remains marginal, its 499. 5 cm3 engine develops ½ horsepower more than its predecessor to reach 18 hp. A top speed of 95 km/ h for a weight of only 520 kg. Like all 500s, it has independent suspension and hydraulically operated drum brakes.
Its mechanicals are sound and despite the age of the car and its modest power, it moves with enthusiasm on our beautiful roads in France for several years without incident.
Its colour combination (Grey/ Red) with its retractable roof surely ranks among the best, and the ambience aboard is unmistakable, as you travel roughly 55 years back in time and these sensations no longer exist in today’s large modern cars: the sound of this small engine, together with the noble aromas of the cabin and its way of moving, are all arguments to love this car. To understand what we describe, you have to try it.
Our example is in perfect condition, requires no restoration and awaits you for your lovely passionate tours.
