On it's launch in 1990 the Cagiva Elefant was one of the most expensive and exclusive motorcycles available in the UK - launched to celebrate the wins by Ducati powered Cagiva Elefants in the Paris-Dakar race; it was a stablemate & contemporary of the Ducati 851
The Elefant 900 IE with Lucky Explorer livery was born in a limited edition of 1, 000 models: it has a 904 cm³ engine derived from the Ducati 900SS, with 5-speed gearbox and Weber-Marelli electronic injection: the bike is equipped with the best components then on the market, such as the Ohlins monoshock and Nissin brakes. The bikes were presented with a silver keychain with the progressive number and signed by Edi Orioli. Now it is rare and sought after by collectors for its exclusivity.
This original unmolested Elefant has been in my ownership since 1996 - it was previously owned by a friend who acquired the bike in April 1991. I have therefore known the bike since it was 7 months old...
I have travelled to Italy on the bike in previous years and also ridden on moorland bridleways (carefully!) it really is a superb all-rounder.
The bike has previously been serviced by both a local Factory trained Ducati mechanic and also by the renowned Elefant expert - Roy Armstrong of Italtune.
Last month, as part of a major service, the drive belts were replaced with superior Exactfit items - the air, oil and fuel filters were changed along with the spark plugs and the valve shims were checked/ replaced as required. All this work was carried out by a Factory Trained Ducati mechanic.
The bike is in very good ORIGINAL condition cosmetically given that it 28years old and has nearly 50000km on the clock. MOT is current until 23rd April 2019.
A quick check of the MOT history will show that mileage has been minimal for many years and so I have finally decided to put the bike up for sale.
Comes complete with ltd edition plaque and leather key cover plus spare key.
Original owners manual and a wealth of MOT certificates and previous invoices.
