The Simca 1000 saloon was launched at the Paris Motor Show in October 1961. At that time FIAT was Simca's majority shareholder, and the latter's new baby had started life as a FIAT project, which explains the rear-engine/ rear-drive layout, a first for Simca but established technology back in Turin. The engine was an inline four displacing 944cc, installed fore-and-aft behind the rear axle. Rugged and reliable, it incorporated five main bearings and a 'cross-flow' cylinder head, both of which represented advanced technology at that time. Placing the engine/ transmission package at the rear made for a spacious interior, while the generous glass area made the car particularly pleasant to drive.

Italian tuners Abarth soon offered modified versions of the 1000, and later Simca began offering its own higher-performance derivatives, commencing in 1969 with the 1, 118cc Sp?cial. Also using the 53hp 1, 118cc engine, the first of the popular Rallye series arrived the following year. The Rallye was followed by the Rallye 1, Rallye 2, and Rallye 3, the latter boasting a 1, 294cc engine producing 123bhp.

This Rallye 3 was first registered in France and to the vendor's knowledge has never been raced, as both the body and mechanicals remain original. In 2005 the car was meticulously restored in Switzerland by a marque specialist with no expense spared, and in 2006 was acquired by the current vendor, a prominent collector. Since then it has participated in two demonstration runs. Well maintained and 'on the button', this charismatic little sports saloon is ready for the next owner to enjoy. Offered with French and Greek 'historic' registration papers.

Simca 1000 Rallye 3 1978
Ch?ssis n? S1ND28P357791
