........... SORRY, DEPOSIT TAKEN....... AIRHEADS URGENTLY REQUIRED........................
Demand for good, honest, BMW project bikes continues to be in high demand, and this early R80/ 7 is a perfect candidate for either a restoration to standard, or custom special.
In many ways, it would be a shame to see such an original bike carved up. It’s a matching numbers bike, and despite not being used for many years, after a light re commissioning, it fired into life instantly.
As a two previous owner bike, it seems to have been spared the butchery that some of these old classics have to suffer. We’ve fitted a brand new battery, checked and topped up all fluids, tyre pressures, etc, and cleaned and balanced the carbs. She’s now off the button, with neutral, oil and charge lights extinguishing as they should. Compressions are even, and well up to original manufactures spec. Lights, indicators, etc, are also all working, with only the stoplamp misbehaving by staying on. Brakes are all operative, but to be honest, quite “wooden”, but no surprise given the length of time she’s stood. No smoke, no rattles, and riding as a good Boxer should. Even most of the paint appears original.
This is obviously one of the earlier R80/ 7’s, complete with the increasingly rare wire wheels (on original alloy rims) and with the twin front disc option, and the preferred drum rear. Of course being an April 1978 build (March ‘79 registered) the bike will be MOT exempt, and road tax free upon application.
As i say, all in all a really great bike that with a little time (rather than money!) could be up and on the road within a weekend. Alternatively, a great base for a nice restoration.
