Description
A very original MG M-Type that I bought nearly two years ago. I now need to sell it as I am getting short of storage space and never seem to drive it.
The car was sold new by University Motors in London in October 1930 and still retains its original registration number MG-748 (not transferable).
According to the original log book that I have, the car lived in London all its life until the early 1970's. I was told by the Gentleman that I bought it from that he believed it was then exported to Europe (possibly Belgium) and formed part of a museum.
It then returned to England in the early 1990's and was sold to the Gentleman I purchased it from. He planned to turn it into a Double Twelve replica but never did. The car just sat in his dehumidified garage and did nothing until I bought it in February 2008. He very kindly re-furbished all the suspension and brakes prior to selling it to me so that he was happy it was safe!
It has been fun tracking down a bit of history on the car and re-registering it in England on its original number plate, but in reality it must now be sold.
The MG is very original and has never had a full restoration. The chassis is in superb condition and the body is descent. It still has the metal bonnet and cloth bulkhead and doors, although the doors have been cut down to aid elbow room. The chrome has long gone from the radiator and headlights which gives the car a lovely patinated and mellow appearance.
Some time I believe in the 1940’s, when it was fashionable to do so, the pointy tail was removed and replaced with a dummy slab petrol tank.
Upon buying the car I had MWS make five new wheels from original old hubs and fit new tyres which cost me £1, 000.
I have got VSCC papers on the car allowing entry into VSCC sporting events.
I have also just replaced all of the oils on the car using the correct Castrol Classic oils.
On the short journeys that I have done in the car it runs very well and is great fun to drive. Everything seems to work as it should, such as brakes, gears and obviously the engine.
Please contact me for further information. As these cars are so very rare it is difficult to value them, so my price could be negotiable depending on the response (or lack of!) that I receive.
