The P6 or Rover 2000 was launched in 1963 and promptly won car of the year. It was an advanced design with panels that bolted onto a base unit, disc brakes on all four wheels and de-dion tube rear suspension. The single carburettor version was joined by the TC in 1966 and then in 1968 Rover installed a modified version of the lightweight “Buick” 3500 V8 which gave the car a top speed of over 115mph and 0-60 in around 10 seconds in Automatic form.
This car is a 1973 Rover 3500 automatic in its original colour of Almond with Bronze flat pleat leather trim. We bought this car as a bereavement sale – the last owner owned it since 1985 and it was used sparingly, mainly for car shows in the Nottinghamshire area where it was regularly seen on the show circuit and at P6 gatherings.
This Rover is in beautiful condition and as far as we can see never welded. The mileage is 46, 000 and although we don’t guarantee mileages on cars of this age, this is certainly correct and it drives as only a low mileage P6 can with a tight feel, strong oil pressure and a sweet exhaust note. The interior is all original with very little wear and presents beautifully. The underside and structure are also in excellent order and we have had the outer sills off to inspect the inner sills which are in fine order. It was under-sealed by the supplying dealer and subsequently cavity Waxoyled which has clearly helped to preserve it. Also visible underneath are a new pair of front calipers, stainless exhaust and a recently re-furbished automatic gearbox.
We have just changed the transmission fluid and the engine oil and filter and carried out a hundred or so test miles and this outstanding Rover is now ready to use.
*** Included in the sale is the valuable and transferable registration number “4 VNN”. It is worth noting that “8 VNN” is currently on sale at £10k and “1 VNN” at £16k ***
