To Be OFFERED AT AUCTION at RM Sothebys' Auburn Fall event, 29 August - 1 September 2019. Estimate:$90, 000 - $110, 000 Retains original L79 350 hp, 327 cu. in. V-8Muncie four-speed transmission with Hurst shifterJerry MacNeish–certified original L79 carJust 18, 587 documented original milesOriginal Protect-O-Plate and copy of window sticker In 1966 the all-new Chevy IIs delivered a razor-sharp restyle based on the earlier Super Nova concept car. The proportions flowed much better than the earlier cars, while the overall dimensions were largely unchanged. The styling proved popular, and interest in the top-tier Nova Super Sport spiked. Super Sports received all-vinyl interior trim with optional bucket seats, electric clock, and SS trim. Ultimately 20, 986 Nova Super Sport two-door hardtop coupes passed through showrooms and onto American roads. Of those premium Nova SS, only 5, 481 lucky owners could lay claim to the legendary 350 hp L79 model. The secret of the L79 Nova SS was a high power-to-weight ratio. The sublime detailing of the Super Sport didn’t overtly advertise its 10 pounds per horsepower potency. With all that power and the ability to quickly push near 6, 000 rpm, the little Nova SS surprised owners of larger-engined competitors. This beautiful 1966 Chevrolet Chevy II Nova SS L79 was assembled at GM’s Ypsilanti, Michigan, plant and delivered to Atwood Chevrolet in Bristol, Connecticut, having been purchased new by Joseph R. C. Michaud. Finished in Marina Blue over black vinyl trim, this stunning example has covered only 18, 587 documented, original miles over very limited ownership. A stunning time capsule, it boasts not only its original Protect-O-Plate and copy of its window sticker, it retains its original chrome and impeccable original black interior with flawless dash, bucket seats, and Delco AM radio. It is fitted with BFGoodrich Silvertown thin whitewall tires and SS wheel covers. At one time the car resided on the West Coast, which is where it acquired its California black plate. Most significantly, this beautifully presented L79 Nova SS includes respected Chevrolet historian Jerry MacNeish’s certification as an original L79 car still retaining its factory engine.
