Here we have my beautiful and extremely rare MX5 MK1 VR Limited Combination B – 1 of only 800 produced with very few examples now remaining. This is a particularly nice example as the mileage is very low for a MK1 at 67k. Just had the MOT renewed with no advisories with a full 12 months remaining.
The VR limited spec is pretty much the most desirable specification of the MX5 mk1 as it culminated in all the best upgrades available in one car. Including Torsen LSD, lightened flywheel, extra bracing, power increase from series 2 engine to 133bhp, as well as many other cosmetic and mechanical upgrades which if you are looking at this car you probably know already.
The car comes with the bonus of having the most desirable alloys for a MK1 in my opinion, the MX5 BBS alloys that are in excellent condition and have all the original center caps intact! These are super rare to find; and are worth a considerable amount on their own and look much better than the standard VR spec alloys. Leather seats with the green roadster logo as per VR specification, in excellent condition with no tears. Upgraded stereo, automatic aerial, AC and all the other VR spec bits inside and out. Rear number plate was replaced with a new short flat plate but the rear is still the original Eunos VR back panel and can fit a square plate if desired.
Car has an extensive folder of history with loads of maintenance work having been done including recent clutch, brakes, new tyres with excellent tread etc. Comes with two keys both with remote immobiliser fob.
Rust and condition wise the car is excellent, the MOT tester mentioned how clean it was underneath, with no rust or other advisories. Original spot welds on arches so have not been messed with and sills are good. Bodywork is excellent overall, paintwork shines and there are no major dents or dings, there was a minor scuff a few inches long in paint on wing, which I had blended in recently with work done to a good standard. Soft top is the original dark green soft top which is in good condition overall with no leaks and window is fairly clear.
In terms of driving the car drives great, with no knocks or noises, engine revs freely and feels solid. A real pleasure to cruise around in the car has a lovely retro look and feel to it, with the performance and handling to match.
The car gets loads of admiration, looks and positive comments. In terms of MX5 bragging rights it doesn’t get much better than this. Last one that I could find that sold was advertised at £4. 5k with 109k mileage. I am an MX5 enthusiast and have owned many over the years, my previous VR limited combination A went to a collector in Scotland, but the Combination B is far more desirable as the colour scheme is more iconic for the MX5 and doesn’t come up for sale very often.
In the summer, and if I was a little more patient, I’m sure I could get closer to 6k for the car as I know it would appeal to enthusiast collectors due to the low mileage. However due to some proposed building works I don’t have the storage for that long so looking to sell so someone else can enjoy it.
Almost impossible to lose money on the car at this price as the values of the MK1 are going up year on year especially low mileage limited run models. This spec hardly ever comes up for sale so a real opportunity to own an investment which you can enjoy. Classic car insurance for over 25's is typically around £100, so cheap to own and run. Any test drive at my discretion and inspection is welcome, please keep in mind this is a classic car and not fresh from the show room, STRICTLY no timewasters or test pilots, if you are not serious about purchasing the car please do not waste my time or your own.
